    >>You won’t hear too many Alabamians complain about ranking last in this category.

Hey moron, we are not last, we are first.

    >>However, we should also remember that we get what we pay for.

If this were even remotely true, higher taxes would not be such a big deal. Alabamians know when the spend a few dollars at Wal-Mart, they get a few dollars of stuff for it. No problem. A few dollars spent on taxes and much of it is flushed down the sewer or finds its way into Larry’s bank account…

Hooyah Eufaula Tribune editorial. It is amazing how we can all justify paying more for gas sa we can enjoy our higher priced SUVs. We can easily justify we go out to eat so much even though it costs more than preparing it at home. But when ANYONE mentions the tax system in Alabama…IT’S ALL JUST TOO MUCH. We rank dead last in so many catagories and ranking last on this one is the main reason.

With the lowest taxes, Alabama is constantly forced to be “penny wise and pound foolish.” Not only do we get less because the state has less to spend but we end up with less because we end up doing the Wal-Mart thing. Buying cheap made in China crap that takes only a short pause in its journey between the store and the land fill. The fact is the poor pay more and it goes for states as well. For example we do not pay for our state legislators to have a legislative aid. This results in lobbyist writing much of Alabama’s legislation.

Just got up and headed for Starbucks! Can’t decide which SUV to drive. I guess I will go for the full sized Hummer will leave my battleship sized camper and bass boat hooked up! The hummer belches black smoke! I will try to cut off a prius and blow black smoke all over the save the cahaba crowd!

    Ha! Ha! Ha!
I purchased several cases of Freon before they were outlawed a few years ago.

Think I will enjoy spraying them into the fragile atmosphere!!

I love to watch the videos of the icecaps melting and landing on the baby bears! Ha Ha Ha!

Throw dynamite into the Cahaba and watch the few remaining Cahaba Shiners float belly up!!

Spray some weedkiller on the Cahaba Lilly, Die Lilly!

This is a state where the easiest way to election/re-election is to accuse the other guy of wanting to raise taxes.

This is a state where whenever the headlines and chattering class scream of an immediate financial crisis, somehow, later on, the crisis is averted without noticeably raising taxes or curtailing services.

This a state where the group that would benefit most (public employees) seem uninterested in doing the door to door street level campaigning/education required to increase tax and provide new jobs for new services.

Also, this state’s Congressmen and Senators are adept at tapping other people’s money to pay for things we want.

The Tribune’s editorial is a tiny step forward but those who want higher state revenues need to do a lot more work.

    >>but those who want higher state revenues need to do a lot more work.

They don’t need to do a better sales job. The need to perform better with the current dollars. Give me my money’s worth and I’m all for spending a few more dollars. Piss my money down the toilet and you are going to have a hard time getting any more out of me…

Would agree with the notion since at least the days of Honest Ike Vincent, the state government and its supporters have done a mediocre to poor job of spending money wisely.
