Country Singer George Jones on CD-2
| Push the play button to hear the radio ad. |
After being mostly gone for a week, I have been trying to get up to speed for a post about how and why people are buzzing like angry bees around a hive on the AL-02 Congressional race between Jay Love and Harri Anne Smith.
But this radio commercial from country singer George Jones on the AL-02 race was too good to wait on. It’s one for the vault.

George sounds drunker than Hell!
Considering the fact that Harri Anne skipped just about every debate and forum in the primary, it makes sense that No Show Jones is supporting her campaign!
Comment by Possum — July 8, 2008 @ 2:31 pm
OMG - this might be the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time! Thanks for the laugh, Danny.
Comment by BrightFan — July 8, 2008 @ 2:41 pm
With this new George Jones ad, it sure looks like “The Race Is On” although Ol’ Possum sounds like he drank about a quart of “White Lightnin’” before recording it.
Since Harri Anne Smith ran all those negative ads, I can’t believe “She Thinks I Still Care” about her candidacy. I bet after she fired Swinehart, “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”
But if either Jay or Harri Anne actually get elected to Congress, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” in the Legislature?
Comment by Who Shot Sam — July 8, 2008 @ 2:44 pm
Sounds like George “broke the head off Elvis, filled Fred up to his pelvis, now yabba dabba doo, the King is gone and so are you . . .”
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 3:08 pm
George is 100 per cent right about Jay Love being a liar . . .or should I say 100 PROOF right!
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 3:10 pm
George is probably on his riding mower right now headed for a bar to clebrate with Ronnie Gilley . . .see Danny, I worked lawnmowers in!

well, we used to have mississippi.
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 3:15 pm
Oh good god. Couldnt George Jones have at least stayed sober for the ad itself. However, Guilley is putting his money where his mouth is. Jay Love crossed the wrong fellow on this one.
Comment by Jay Loves Taxes — July 8, 2008 @ 3:20 pm
George Jones is telling it like it is. Jay Love is not for the people. As for Ronnie Gilley, he is an intelligent person. Too bad you people can’t handle the truth!
Comment by Alabama Resident — July 8, 2008 @ 3:21 pm
Every time Ronnie Gilley opens his mouth, I expect to hear him say, “It’s me! It’s me! It’s Ernest T.!!!”
Comment by Not a Gilley Fan — July 8, 2008 @ 3:29 pm
Wow, what a bunch of class acts. I guess you jacklegs don’t get out much. George has been sober for over a decade.
He has however in recent years, suffered from a stroke, so I guess its open season on ole Possum. Funny, I bet even after a stroke that George is quicker than all of you insensitive morons.
Go get em Possum.
Comment by Gunney Highway — July 8, 2008 @ 3:30 pm
#4 may have the best quote yet. I submit that the “King is Gone” is the greatest country song of all time. Now as for the radio spot, I think it adds absolutely nothing to an already worthless race. As a bystander who doesn’t support either candidate, I don’t see much that distinguishes either of them from the other. They both seem to be stretching the truth on their voting record while accusing the other of doing the same thing they’ve been doing. This all makes my head hurt. To quote Hank, “Now I think I know how George feels.”
Comment by Fo-fiver — July 8, 2008 @ 3:37 pm
This is now the leading candidate for worst political ad of the year — maybe this decade. Oddest thing I’ve heard in a while.
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 3:39 pm
George has been sober and did suffer from a stroke. How dare you people make insinuations towards those you know nothing about. Just things you choose to believe through gossip you wish to hear.
But then again I guess you are Jay Love supporters so what are we to expect.I support Bobby Bright all the way!But encourage people to vote Harri Anne Smith for the Republican Runoffs we do not want or need Jay Love…Period.
Comment by Whimlady — July 8, 2008 @ 3:40 pm
Uh, Gunney and Whimlady, I’ve read George Jones’ autobiography (big fan), just checked his Wikipedia page and did a Google search and found no record of him ever having a stroke. Can you offer anything to substantiate that he did - an Internet link, a newspaper story, anything? If not, let the board have some fun and shut up.
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 3:45 pm
George does talk like that now, the last car wreck just about killed him. Since I am in Tennessee I wouldnt know anything about the politics of Alabama but I do know that George has had some personal problems but he never tells a story with a twist, if he says the guy is a slime ball you can take it to the bank…..
Comment by Karl Boots — July 8, 2008 @ 3:53 pm
Lets all be fine upstanding conservative christians and pass judgement on George Jones……Hey!! nobody knows about our personal problems so it won’t be a big deal….right guys?
George Jones was spot on…
Comment by CC Dollar — July 8, 2008 @ 3:59 pm
Well I do know that George has been in and out of Baptist Memorial Hospital since his car wreck and the last time I knew of when I was in Nashville he had pneumonia. George is a singer anyway and most singers aren’t as good of a talker. George is not a young pup anymore. So the stroke info I can’t find but do know he has been sober since the car wreck. But please if your gonna have some fun don’t have the fun at someone elses expense…OK? And that is asking nicely I know you can’t hear my tone…
Comment by Whimlady — July 8, 2008 @ 4:00 pm
The Eagles are gonna endorse Jay Love since his theme song is “Lyin’ Eyes” . . . .
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 4:02 pm
To all you saying “poor George”: the man put himself in the public arena by making this stupid ad, so if someone wants to criticize or poke fun, quit complaining. I don’t know anything about this Country Crossings thing, but this ad is because George has a financial stake in it with the Gilley guy, Smith is for it, and Love is against it, right? Follow the money.
Comment by Anon in 13 — July 8, 2008 @ 4:06 pm
The Eagles may have let him buy the rights to use their song “Lyin Eyes”…LOL. But I don’t think they are even a “Desperado” enough to endorse or vote for Jay Love.
Comment by Whimlady — July 8, 2008 @ 4:08 pm
“But please if your gonna have some fun don’t have the fun at someone elses expense…OK? And that is asking nicely I know you can’t hear my tone.”
Unfortunately, when you record a political campaign commercial, call someone a liar and put it up on the air, you’re going to be the subject of criticism, discussion and, of course, jokes, especially on this board.
Perhaps Possum should have thought of that before he recorded the spot. Heat. . .kitchen. . .get out. . .
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 4:09 pm
Actually Love would have been for it if Ronnie would have answered his calls to endorse him.Ronnie was not for either he was for Schmidtke…Untill Jay Love started the BS.
Comment by Whimlady — July 8, 2008 @ 4:11 pm
Sir Mix-A-Lot is also endorsing Harri Anne Smith because he likes big butts and he cannot lie. You other brothers can’t deny.
Comment by Anonymous — July 8, 2008 @ 4:13 pm
Suggesting the Love campaign is getting things too hot in the kitchen for George is like calling Jay Love masculine . Or hell just calling Jay honest period. Jay is a girlie man.
Comment by John Townsend — July 8, 2008 @ 4:14 pm
Let me just add you Lovers have suggested this race is sewn up and no one should take Gilley seriously. Why then is the Jay Love campaign doing a poll in the district asking what people think about Gilley? Seems the pot on the stove is starting to boil a bit for Smith?
Comment by John Townsend — July 8, 2008 @ 4:17 pm
Jay Love’s ads have spoke for themselves on his character and his refusal to see the truth. Ronnie got pulled into this mess because of Jay Love and if you are a Southern Man…or woman you will not sit back and let someone out and out lie about things you know are wrong. Now Jay Love has a phone poll about Ronnie Gilley’s character. We stick up for eachother when we know whats right and Ronnie buddy just happens to be George.George is not ashamed to stick up for his friend that he knows is being dragged through the mud for know apparent reason. Ronnie until now hated politics but has been forced to get in the middle of this crap to save his good name and reputation.

I believe this ad is more effective that most are giving it credit for. As I understand it is playing on Country Music stations only, in a very rural district. Drunk or not, I bet there are a lot of folks who will respond positively to George Jones. I think the message, that Jay is a liar, is strong coming from someone who is not normally involved in politics.

With a week to go before the run-off, things are getting interesting - such as this radio adby George Jones. (Only in Alabama are you likely to see country music, economic development, gambling and politics intertwine like this.) This story will explain the basis for this ad. This link will give you a pretty good run down of what has been happening. I suspect that the 11th Commandment of Republican Politics is about to be broken repeatedly between now and next Tuesday. the problem i see is this: Gilley feels like he has broken in to the big time and become significant. This is all new, exciting and dangerous for Gilley. New/Exciting: Gilley will not be going away from the public spotlight anytime soon, if HAS wins, then RG will be a big advocate and feel like he helped. If she loses, RG will then jump on over to Bobby to continue smearing JL and hope to remain significant. This is dangerous for RG because it seems as if he’a bit of a hothead (i may be wrong), and i hear he’s not scared to knock a few back - more beers = bad decisions = the downfall of RG’s short but sweet political run.

George is not hammered. Bobby Bright to me is the only way to go and I hope Ronnie does step over to Bobby. I have been letting him know that Bobby is the true voice for Washington, even though I am a Republican. But I promise you this Ronnie Gilley does not have a big head he is busy getting his dream into becoming a reality. Ronnie Gilley could have cared less about politics, but was not going to stand back and watch his name be dragged through the mud…would you ANONYMOUS??? I truthfully doubt.
Ronnie is a true blue guy he has friend in high places and also friends who can barely get by. He is a friend to all until they lie about him, bash him and intentionally try and do him wrong. Jay Love is the one that drug Ronnie into the Limelight of politics and like any true American Ronnie is fighting back.Oh and Ronnie and drinking please if the guy has a beer from time to time it’s only to relieve the pressures he has fallen into buy Jay Loves cut throat campaign. But he does not make drinking a habit.

Jay has actually pulled his negative ad that lies about Guilley. This is obviously having an effect by his own measure.

Give Gilley credit for putting his money where his mouth is. Harri Anne will pull this out if the Wiregrass gets out and votes. History is in our hands or we can sit on our rear ends next Tuesday and let Montgomery run over us AGAIN. I hope and pray that for once the voters will invest 5 minutes in the future of the District by going to vote next Tuesday for Harri Anne. It doesn’t cost a thing but a little effort.

No one outside of Houston and Coffee county know or care what Ronnie Gilley thinks. You would think a businessman would not try to make such accusations about the soon to be Representative of his district.

JTinenterprise…You for one should know what your are saying is a crock. Believe me there are a lot of people that listen to Ronnie , Know Ronnie and Love Ronnie for Ronnie the person. It’s a shame that someone that has actually gone after his dream is being bashed by a bunch of couch potatoes with no initiative to move away from their computer let a lone make something as big as Country Crossing happen. You will never have much good in your life if you sit there and make up stories about those you have no clue whatsoever about to cover your own incompetance. George Jones was led to Christ by Gospel singer Vestal Goodman, prior to her death. Since that time, George has been sober.
As far as the CD 2 race goes, Jay Love seems to have crossed a line here. This could bounce back to Harri Anne Smith.

A leader … hmmmm …. Tax revenues are down for the city of Montgomery, due to spending in outer communities …. in turn, due to “the great flight” out of Montgomery to escape escalating crime issues. The only thing good about Bright getting Congress (help us all) would be the the promise of hopefully better leadership for the city of Montgomery.
Comment by anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 7:00 am
To John Killian - you have hit the nail on the head once again John. Jay Love’s big problem from day one in this race has been a tendency to lie about his record and to voters in elections (see 2002 race, his FCPA reports, his ads claiming to have passed tax cuts in this race, and the list goes on and on).
Corny as this ad is, it plainly and bluntly puts into the public mind that Jay Love is a liar. With heavy airplay this percepetion - a perception that Love and his team should justifiably be anxious to keep out of the discussion - will become bigger and will penetrate the public mind more.
Additionally, the ad pits the Wiregrass against Montgomery, with Jay as the Montgomery candidate. Love’s people know that motivated Wirgerass voters are not in their interest. And it is difficult to get Montgomery area voters excited about this race - their stake in this is not as large as it is for the Wiregrass.
So the ad - funny, corny, whatever - may be remembered as one of the more effective ads ever run in an Alabama congressional race.

Comment by Anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 7:17 am
53, i don’t disagree that the ad does put it in the public’s mind this falsehood that JL is a liar. That is where Gilley (from now on, thanks to whimlady, referred to as “Big Time”) went too far. Big Time isn’t being exactly truthful himself, neither is HAS and probably JL isn’t either, but they are all using political speak that walks the line of truth/fiction.
Comment by Anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 7:19 am
#55, you can say a lot of things about Jay Love, but to say it’s a “falsehood” that he is a liar is ridculous, and I actually know some Love supporters who would agree to that point.
Just to put on the record why Jay is a rather remarkable liar even for an Alabama politician, here are a few of his bigger whoppers:
1) Appearing on Don Markwell’s radio talk show in 2002 on the eve of the GOP primary election, Jay lied in response to direct questioning from Markwell over the source of his campaign funds. Markwell has discussed this himself.
2) Jay filed a FCPA 5-10 day preelection report and signed a sworn, notarized statement that “all monies contributed and expended” were included. That was a lie by Jay’s own admission on his later (annual)report, which showed tens of thousands of dollars contributed by liberal democratic special interests days BEFORE his sworn statement, and payments to liberal democrat campaign consultants Matrix LLC days BEFORE his sworn statement as well. That’s just lying plain and simple - and you can see it all for yourself on the Alabama Secretary of State’s webpage. Look for Love’s 2002 pre-primary 5-10 day report and his annual report. It is all there.
3) Jay aired a campaign ad on election eve in 2002 claiming that Bob McKee - the most conservative member of the Alabama legislature and a man targeted by the liberal democratic unions that backed Jay - had tried to set up a legislative pension for himself. The ad was a total lie.
4) Jay has claimed during this campaign that he has “sponsored and passed tax cut legislation.” The official records of the Alabama legislature available online at ALISON prove this to be a lie as well. Jay has sponsored and passed precisely one bill - a lump sum payout to the state employees’ union membership.
5) Jay has - in TV ads - stated that Harri Anne Smith took campaign contributions from Ronnie Gilley. This is provably a lie from FEC reports.
I could go on and on, but you get the point. Jay does not tell the truth. Lots of politicians don’t, but even by politico standards Jay is a brazen, audacious liar.
Comment by Anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 7:44 am
All you folks so bitter over bob mckee getting beat years ago need to get over it. Jay is not a liar and no matter how many times you , or a seemingly drunk george jones want to say it, it doesn’t make it so.

As for Ronnie Gilley, you don’t know the man, so don’t judge others until you judge yourself! He is a down to earth guy, what you see is what you get. Gambling may be economically lucrative for the Dothan area, but it certainly does not fit in with the traditional conservative ethos. Harri Ann may not have asked for Gilley’s support, but she sure as $*^# isn’t rejecting it. Saying that- “well, we didn’t receive any contributions, ask for Gilley’s support, etc.” doesn’t matter if Harri Ann doesn’t decry his support openly, since she claims they have had no dealings since that would be illegal. Harri Ann’s people seem to forget her original message of being the “true conservative”. Okay; if that’s the case, why try to pull the populist scapegoat out of her bag of tricks to criticize (gasp!) those evil, dastardly oil exectutives who are just steamrolling the Alabama citizenry. Spare me Sen. Smith! This ploy just proves she’s just another politician who will use any frightening rhetoric to scare voters of Jay Love and his “big oil pals”. Sounds an awful lot like what those Social Democrats would say, hmmm?
Comment by Benjamen Disraeli — July 9, 2008 @ 11:18 am
Maybe Smith didn’t reject Gilley. But then again, she didn’t ask him for money and then lie about it ala Liar Love. I’ll take my chances with Smith.
Comment by Anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 11:37 am
Ohh, that’s quite an informed decision. Be more than happy with a gambling kingpin’s support, acquiesce to his endorsement without a peep while simultaneously claiming no contributions since that would be illegal…hmm. Oh Wait! Actually, Harri Ann’s a liar since she said she was a “true conservative” and then started going on about Jay being in bed, basically, with ExxonMobil and ConocoPhilips. That’s a charge right out of Dianne Feinstein and Bernie Sanders’ playbooks. Harri Ann supporter-”Oh my gosh, Sen. Smith said the oil executives and speculators want to drink the blood of our children, process it, and turn it into fuel to power their Range Rovers with Jay Love making it legal! Let’s tax them- that wouldn’t hurt the free market or average consumers like us or anything”. Go grab a drink at Gilley’s bar with Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels Sen. Smith.
Comment by David Cameron — July 9, 2008 @ 12:02 pm
State House insiders say Love also double-crossed both his constituents — and his fellow Republican legislators — when he made a back-door deal with Democrats to let them raise taxes on business — though it would make Alabama less competitive with other states in the hunt for new employers. In return, Democrats agreed to back Love’s health care bill.
But with his eye on a run for Congress, Love then apparently realized that it was a dangerous time for him to vote for tax increases on businesses and thereby alienate financial contributors from the business community that he would need to fund his congressional campaign. Moreover, as Love apparently also knew, his bill would not improve health coverage for Alabamans since it offered nothing to encourage savings though tax-exempt health care savings accounts or similar means.
Having whipped up support for his bill, Love turned and voted against it himself, leaving fourteen of his fellow Republicans looking like fools for a bill that Love apparently was only using as window dressing.
What a guy!!!

I am still perplexed as to why this obcession with RG and his character, business, personal life and so forth. Last time I checked, RG wasn’t running for office. OK, southeastern Alabama’s gambling kingpin. Simply an expression. Besides, you’re missing the point- Harry Ann Smith with her new mailer and add proves herself to be nothing more than a simple populist. If voters knew anything about economics, they’d know this bs about oil companies paying their fair share and raising prices, dadadah is exactly that-bs. How dare her to pose as a true conservative?!
Comment by Michael Howard — July 9, 2008 @ 2:50 pm
I think it is OK for Harri Anne to pose as a conservative since Jay Love -in the same breath that he calls himself a “Christian” - lies. That is horribly distasteful, and that is one thing you hear in the George Jones ad that is compelling.
Whether it is on Tuesday or in the fall, Jay Love will be damaged by the truth issue - as he should be. There is ample evidence that he has no allegiance to the truth.
Comment by Anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 3:07 pm
The sad truth about Harri Ann is that she in the same breath calls herself a conservative and then starts ranting and raving about the oil companies. I could not vote in good conscience for someone on a Republican ticket, a party founded to protect the free market during the middle of the nineteenth century, who wants to tax oil companies and yet says in the same idiom that she “hates taxes”. If you’re saying that we’re choosing between the lesser of two evils, then I’d choose Jay in a heartbeat, since at least he understands and likes capitalism. The free market is what makes America great, and everyday Democrats and Republicans neglect these great freedoms. Shame on Republicans especially who cry out against the “abuses” of corporations and try to make them “pay their fair share”. Dangerous talk, that. Sounds more like socialism than conservative values.
Comment by Richard Henry Lee — July 9, 2008 @ 3:35 pm
Well, I value the truth. Jay doesn’t. He has no business in any position in government.
I think free markets, capitalism, etc. made this country great. But the first responsibility of an elected official is to be honest with his constituents. Jay was dishonest to get elected to his current office, has been dishonest with his constituents since being elected, and is being dishonest in this campaign. That is more important even than issue positions. His character is not good.
Comment by Anonymous — July 9, 2008 @ 4:02 pm
I think George Jones is wrong. He says Jay Love is a “plain . . .old . . .liar!”
Actually Jay is a very uptown, slick, sophisticated liar. He even has people he has hired to help him lie. There is nothing plain about it - it’s a lyin’ empire that Bill Clinton would envy . . . .

# 73 Dishonest about what?
Comment by Paul C — July 9, 2008 @ 4:10 pm
For #75 - It repeats stuff from above but here goes: Jay lied on his 2002 FCPA report, he lied to his constituents about the source of his funding on Don Markwell, he has repeatedly lied about sponsoring and passing tax cut legislation, he lied about Harri Smith taking Ronnie Gilley’s contribution (and that lie is still running on TV unless it was pulled today) and it goes on and on. Apparently he lied about Gilley too as he sure as the world is very very angry.
There is ample, consistent evidence that Jay Love does not tell the truth.

You know, I could honestly care less about “character”. John McCain called the people in French Indochina “gooks” but I’m still going to vote for him- and you know why?- (drum roll please) he will cut taxes, foster economic growth in the private sector, etc. Character is a purely subjective view by some voters that in my opinion constitutes a somewhat lackluster reason to vote for a person. Furthermore, Harri Ann is an even bolder liar if we’re going to talk about lies (damn, we sound like Al Franken). Foremost among these is calling herself “the true conservative” in the race and then calling on the taxation of oil companies. Absolute falsehood!
Comment by Thomas Jefferson — July 9, 2008 @ 5:06 pm
Anmyone who thinks character is subjective should definitely support Jay Love. He’s your guy.

Another Anonymous in #80,
What are you talking about? I have never deleted a comment because it shows “dates, proof and researchable evidence” that I didn’t like.
Are you perhaps confused and looking for this comment that you left in another comment thread about three hours earlier? It had some dates, etc. That comment has certainly not been deleted.
I think you are mistaken that any comment like you describe has been deleted, but I would be glad for you to elaborate.

It looks like “the race is on” between Jay the “high tech redneck” Love and Harri Anne the “real deal” Smith. “Mr Fool” even with your “money to burn” “sometimes you just can’t win!” and that’s “the cold hard truth!” Jay, you’re “yesterday’s wine” and you have “never bit a bullet like this!” You’ll be the “big fool of the year!” “When the last curtain falls,” you will be a “fox on the run!” Because, “you can’t do wrong and get by!!” Love those Possum songs!

Jay Love first agreed not to have negative campaign ads. His camp responded to the negative ads from HAS. He should not have done this but was lured into the fight. Jay Love was first to announce he would pull all negative ads, but he too is obliged under TV and Radio contracts. I still see and hear HAS ads that are negative so she too MUST be a liar.
As for George Jones, who cares? George is yet to be a registered voter in this district and has ties to CC. No kidding he is going to take a negative stance and promote whatever RGP’s asks, as he is a paid spokesman.
George Jones is a washed up fool and he can be made fun of for it. If you don’t want criticism keep your tired mouth shut. That goes for Ronnie Gilley too.
No doubt BamaJam was a success, and brought revenue to Coffee County, however, it also paid Ronnie Gilley. Do not act like this was a charitable event for the sole purpose of doing good in this area. It was a calculated business decision that could have gone either way.
Ronnie has made himself a target through his actions and questionable business practices and ethics. My guess is that if CC does not get approved or off the ground, RG will go belly up. Brookwood, Cotton Creek Townhomes, Steak Out, Carvelle, Prestiege Construction, and other ventures do not seem to be making money. Not to mention the countless investors that have spent money betting on RGP’s and come up short.

Harri Ann should have never changed her mind! It didn’t look very good especially after just a few days.Ronnie should have stayed out of this, Love didn’t drag him in this he mention his name because Ronnie was already in it.Ronnie has already told everyone that they both had been to his house. What do you think they talkd about the Drapes! of couse not Ronnie needs this political pull do make things easier down the road.Did Jay love or Harri Ann just happen to be driven by and stop in? Of couse not they were invited.I hate that Ronnie has pulled these to senior citizens into this mess! They need to be somewhere enjoying there golden years and family not being dragged into this mess ! yes I’m talking about George and his wife take just a minute and think about who they really are, there real people. This will haunt Ronnie the rest of his life if anyone needs to make a public apolige it needs to be Ronnie for letting George do that.I don’t think it was Geoges idea. Oh and by the way where are the rest of the artist ? Maybe they wern’t that easy?
Vote for Jay or Harri that is your choice, but remember what kind of world do you want your kids growing up in? Maybe you’ll vote for the gambling maybe you want, maybe your kid will work at a casino or maybe they want, maybe you’ll get to watch the gran-kids while your kids work at the casino or maybe you want.Remeber we are all just passing thru any stone you lay in motar will be hard to get out once it sets up.

[…] Things have gone south quick, and I think Smith was the first to go negative when she caled Love out for voting for Bob Riley’s Billion Dollar Tax Increase ™ although she also voted for it. Love hasn’t been innocent either, including this website which has apparently been pulled. There’s also this radio ad where George Jones calls Jay Love a big fat liar. Things got bad enough for Governor Bob Riley and the incumbent Terry Everett to call on them to tone things down. These two are giving the Democrat Bobby Bright a good starting position. Check out thi article about Bama Jam. People should know that there were not 218000 people, some people were counted 3 times in that number, and NOT everyone had a good time.
Comment by Anonymous — July 12, 2008 @ 10:54 pm
#93 Unbelievable! You let one man, that may have had a bit much to drink, while on a mini vacation, destroy your whole weekend at Bama Jam? All because he offered you friendship by offering you a beer and hamburger?
As I see it, since you are married, why did you accept his offer? You left yourself wide open for the assumption you were single! Why not say something like “I’d love too join you but first let me go get my husband”. Or, when you were ‘hit on’ why didn’t you leave instead of staying until your beer got warm? I got ya, a FREE BEER!
Now for the numbers, again you have no clue what you are talking about! There were 111,000 tickets sold. There was also several thousand tickets that were comp’ed (free) Some of which were 1 day, most were 3 day event tickets. The total number of people that passed through the gates was estimated due to the fact the people with the 3-day wrist band were NOT re-counted by scan. On Sat. alone it is quite possible nearly every person that had a wristband was in attendance.
They certainly packed the entire area! Also don’t forget, there were a lot of kids there that had no wristband since they got in free.
I wish there had been aerial view pictures taken on Sat. then NO ONE would question the numbers of people there.
If you were there Thurs. when it was announced 27,000
people had passed through the gates, you would have seen the comparison of how many was there Sat…27,000 was a mere fraction of the Sat. nite attendance.

I just Love too read all this crap! The funny thing is most of the comments we are reading have been written by people that’s not even old enough to vote.If you’ll read between the lines you can pick them out. You know Jay Love may be a lair but you know if he is he’ll fit right in with everyone else.Has Harri Ann been completly honest, I don’t think so.They have all told there fair share of lies. You know it’s kinda like the President election heck with these choices I just want to close my eyes and pick one at Random. The bottom line is RG should have stayed out of this, it has nothing and I mean nothing to do with him no more than it has to do with anyone else in Alabama. He loves attention and loves to stir *^%*.what would have happen if Elvis would have ran for President or just endorsed a President, He or the one he endorsed would have more than likely won because every fan would have rush to the polls to vote.He was one of the greatest singers that has ever recorded but he didn’t need to been in office. It will all be over soon and like someone said earlier if Harri wins RG will have saved the day but if she loses oh man ! I wonder what will happen to his little empire all of his investors are on the edge of their seats It’s my understanding some have already took there loses and got out do to the fact that they are some good decent people invested but think this is all wrong besides the fact they have not see any return on their monney. For the one (1) response I got on my earlier comment read it again I don’t think you got it.CC would be great no doubt it would bring alot of revenue into the area, but this is our home where we live and our kids we hope will stay, they may have diffrent opinions than you when they have kids and just don’t want them brought up around a possible gambling scene, but like you said it will be their choice.I say lets keep the gamimg out and just bring in good clean fun.Besides checking around your area in Houston County you are less than 100 miles of the same type of venue (gaming). You know I love to go to Disney World, Six Flags, even Branson & Nashville, but wouldn’t want them in my back yard, you know that when you visit one of these places you always say man this is great we’ll have to come back but I wouldn’t want to live here !
Just my thoughts no harm intended !

Choices….By your own admission you basically defeated your own argument. Your rhetoric is nothing more than hogwash. You say you want good clean fun on one hand, then you say that Disney,Six Flags are nice but you wouldn’t want them in your backyard. You are obviously hung up on the gambling aspect so much, that it has clouded your judgement. You mention the word “choices” but yet you are basically saying you don’t want others to have their right to choose. That is what make this country so great. The freedom to choose. No one will force you to go, contribute or participate if you do not want to.

You people don’t get it. This is a free Country. If you don’t want to play Bingo, don’t go! I will be there!

I support Country Crossing!
Comment by Houston County Resident — July 14, 2008 @ 11:54 am
(98) There was never and argument nor was there support for either gambling or any of the canidates.I don’t even live in your State I could really care less I you want to know the truth I just joined in after I heard that terriable ad with GJ and this ad was paid for by RG.This man is not even running for anything, nothing, zip.I have done a little research on the internet on RG and looks like he has bought up land in your area mainly in the Enterprise Coffee County Area, what I have read the land has not even been purchased in the Houston county for CC.Heard that they might be some property line issues, anyway fine let them built it let them do what they want there I don’t care might even drive over myself sometime and check it out take some of the shows or maybe play bingo but Sometimes you have to look beyond the gold and glitter to see what kind of effects it will have down the road.I’m not sure how close to this CC you live but you can get ready for your property value to go up if your in the area. You say That’s great my property value just increased 40% this year.Well I hate to break it to you but if your value goes up so does your tax so do you really get a 40% increase.Well lets see I’ll just sell since my property & tax went up.Well you want be the only one thinking that so will everyone else, so your place is for sale, the place next door is for sale and so on.I’m sure you get the idea I don’t care if you want it or not like you said it’s your choice hope you get what you want, just don’t overlook all the issues that will follow. My question would be if I lived in the area would be. Do I like where I live now am I happy here can I live without all this? Either way I hope you get what you want just be careful what you ask for sometimes it’s not what it seems.
Best of luck Tomorrow !

Jay has already visited Fort Rucker, and has plans to do so again after he WINS the primary I’ve been told. I’m sure people in Montgomery wonder why they don’t see HAS at Maxwell…the fact is they are both representing different districts right now and have responsibilities to their respective constituents. Have you seen Bobby Bright at Rucker frequently? Once Jay WINS he will be at Rucker in force protecting our interests in the Wiregrass. Come on people..no matter who wins, we need to unite behind the Republican candidate.
Jay Love never said he was agaginst Country Crossings. He may be against gambling, but he has clearly stated that it is a local issue and will not be involved. Let’s unite this party, otherwise only the Democrats will win.

Hey Choices….through the combined cooperation of the ABC, Coffee County Sheriff’s Dept. and Alabama State Troopers, that number was considerably lower than you would expect at an event like this. I would venture a guess that the number would be substantially higher at a Troy University, Auburn or Alabama game if they had the same type of enforcement present. Pick another fight, you are grasping at straws.

The point I’m trying to make is if you or me were running a club (bar) and you got busted due to a underage drinker they would be tempted to shut you down, the little man dosen’t even have a shot no more.If we could pull off some kinda event that would bring alot of revenue to the area any little problems like this would just be swept under a rug. It’s all about the cash and who you know.I read a article where the sheriffs dept. in Coffee County needed a Helicopter added to the force but their wasn’t enough money in the budget, well the next thing you know they have a Helicopter and BamaJam got a special permit to sell alcohol. It dosen’t matter if they had anything to do with each other or not it dosen’t look good thru the publics eyes.To alot of people (voters) things like this are what they look at.The true people that really go out and cast their vote pay attention to things likes this and don’t just vote for someone because they know them or they live down the road they look for real reasons for this person to represent them in Washington. In a interview RG quotes that Harri Ann has his vote where she wants it or not all because his name was mention in a ad.All he had to do was just wait 3 more weeks and let the election get over with then speak-up on what happen, this could very well cost her the election. You and me both know that something took place at the little party RG had along with invited guest Smith & Love.I don’t think someone could be bought so that makes him the bad guy, come on.Maybe he has told a pack of lies but I bet she has told her fair share.Harri Ann is all for some type of imagration control on our boarders.Well the next time your in Slocomb during the Tomato picking season check out her imagration control. As long as cheaper labor continues to cross our boarders the little man’s wages will never increase. After all the little man that’s trying to survive just lives here in the Country that his ancestors fought & died for.I say if they cross the boarder slap a uniform on them and send straight To Iraq.I learned that you respect things alot more when you have to fight for them.Well this will be over soon and I wish you the best on the elections, if I were 20 miles futher to the west I could cancel out your vote.Just please don’t go vote for Harri Ann because you want to play Bingo that’s just a little scary.Vote for the one that would fight for issues that really matter, if you beleive it’s her then vote that way, do you think the people in other parts of the District (which cover’s almost 12 Counties) even care about RG opinions.

Choices….I am not sure what you think I was hunting for. I do know that RG did not cost HAS the election. If you look at the poll numbers from before and after the RG announcement,it helped her in the polls. Anyway it is a moot point now. The race is over and I wish JL and BB the best. But, JL knows the truth is out there just waiting to bite him on the gluteus maximus. I would suggest that JL get down on his “Conservative Christian” knees and thank God that it didn’t happen sooner.

(113) I don’t really know if he would change over and support BB but he sure went thru alot of trouble and cash just to bash someone, that I might add JL didn’t drag him into this election crap. If you remember and I may have mention it earlier he stated that HAS & JL were both invited to a party he had, I’m sure that’s were the differences went sour but we will never know.As far as changing over it makes me wonder has RG soken to BB yet ? after all being a Democrat really is just a word to the American voter it dosen’t matter which party you vote for I have known Politician to change over while in office.Bottom line is as long as you get your man or woman voted in your the winner. So yes I believe he will vote for BB but it dosen’t necessary mean he changed Parties. This is for (112) I was referring to someone else Sorry for the mix-up,but I didn’t know you lived in another State till now.
