Left in Alabama is going to Denver as a credentialed blog covering the Democratic National Convention in August. Over 120 blogs in all have been credentialed, and Left in Alabama has the whole list.
They were so eager to be represented there that they had already arranged to have someone there blogging with or without credentials. I am so glad to hear now that they are credentialed, and I look forward to reading their perspective on the event. Congratulations to mooncat and her whole crew!

I’m glad y’all both got credentialed. Doc’s is clearly the best Alabama politics blog, but there’s no reason for the DNC to exclude a strong partisan voice like Left in Alabama. It’s the Democratic Convention after all, not a tea party for Independents!
And why on earth would the DNC EVER invite a partisan voice to cover their convention. This was a travesty when Doc’s was selected before Left in Alabama – to those of who are strongly Democratic, it tended to negate the entire process when the DNC selectes someone like Doc’s – which apparently from the posting here tends to appeal to a much more GOP type of audience. I’m glad that there will at least be someone with a more appropriate perspective for the rest of us. Congratulations, Moondog!
First, Anonymous 2, it’s mooncat.
Second, the Political Parlor is widely regarded as the finest political blog in this state. I read numerous other blogs, and the Parlor is still the gold standard in my book.
Left in Alabama, by design, is a partisan site, which is fine. Being partisan, however, leads those who do not agree with the message to steer clear. The Parlor, on the other hand, does not contain a partisan label, which lends itself to a broader array of readers. While I am happy for Left in Alabama, as they are the premier Democratic website in the state, to not have the Parlor represented would be a travesty of the worst kind.
Left in Alabama deserves to be going to Denver; it is one of the most active participants in the state’s political blogosphere (on the left or the right).
And there is no question that Left in Alabama and the Political Parlor are different kinds of blogs. Happily, each has a strong core of readers that we expect will be well-served by both of us going.
Thank you for the kind words.
Get real, Will. “the gold standard” – “a travesty of the worse kind”??? It seems a bit effusive, don’t you think?
When the DNC announced the plan for blogs at the convention, they didn’t say that they were seeking nonpartisan bloggers; in fact, they implied that they were seeking activist blogs. Which made this selection so surprising to many.
The Democratic National Convention is, by design, a partisan function. There will be many members of the press providing non-partisan coverage, and if bloggers wished to do so, that was their option. But to provide official credentials to a nonpartisan blog was truly a slap in the face to Democratic supporters.
I hope that you are going to use your influence to ensure that Doc’s gets credentials to the GOP convention. I know that you’ll be expecting that same level of non-partisan information from that venue as you expect to see from Denver.
Alas Anonymous, my influence is slim and none in relation to the RNC. I can assure you, though, that I will be seeking differing opinions of the Republican Convention, from Left in Alabama and the New York Times to Free Republic and the National Review. I have always been of the opinion that, no matter where you stand, you can always learn from looking at both sides of an issue. I am sure you share the same opinion, as your comments suggest you to be an open-minded sort.
There will be nothing but partisan bloggers at the DNC convention. Anyone who thinks/believes differently is an idiot. The DNC is a private club authorized by statutes to operate elections. Considering this is the last chance the DNC has to win the Whitehouse, of course it wants only positive spinners around. Remember, Untamed Mouths Speak Perect Truths…
This is proof that if the lefty nuts of the blogsphere whine loud enough, the DNC will cave.
Anonymous in 5,
I would be glad to go to the GOP convention and would go in a heartbeat if I could. It is not just a matter of credentials, but also of resources – including time, money, and the good will of people for whom I wear other hats.
Publius,
Saying that there will be nothing but partisan bloggers at the DNC convention is like saying that all the media at the DNC will be nothing but partisan media, which you may also believe but it doesn’t make it true.
BlueDog,
The DNC’s plans for credentialing bloggers always included announcing it in stages so I see no evidence that it is doing something now that it would not have all along.
As for the “lefty nuts” comment, there are of course also nuts on the right, nuts in the middle, and plenty to be found right here at the Political Parlor. I don’t know firsthand many people connected to Left in Alabama, but the ones I do know personally are very fine people.
G’night…
The DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION is as partisian as it gets. I’ll bet the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION wouldn’t let Left in Alabama be a certified blog.
Proof?
This is proof that if the lefty nuts of the blogsphere whine loud enough, the DNC will cave.

The above post is proof the DNC might have made a mistake in choosing Doc’s Political Parlor…..
Looking forward to reading your perspective, It’s going to be interesting….
Thanks, bhmhomeboy, it is going to be interesting.
I’m glad that both Doc’s and LIA are going to the convention. However, I also think LiA should have gotten the state credential, which seemed to be designed for partisan blogs. Danny, I believe, has demonstrated a remarkable ability to stay above the partisan fray and should have received the credential that LiA is getting now. That’s my only quibble. Regardless, we have the two best political blogs in the state heading to the DNC, which is a good thing.
I agree with Samford Dem 100%.
BTW Danny, are you saying the ones you don’t know that are affiliated with Left in Alabama are not fine people?
Just because someone doesn’t share your point of view doesn’t mean they are a “nut” or that they aren’t “fine people”.
LOL, bhmhomboy… that’s not at all what I said and not what I meant.
I said the people I know personally at Left in Alabama are fine people. Period.
Like saying, for example, I don’t know all the Smith family down the street, but the ones I know are fine people. It is a positive comment that should be taken at face value.
Your last comment is arguing against something I have never said or believed. I have never said or believed that someone who doesn’t share my point of view is a “nut” or not “fine people.”
Thank you (and Samford Dem) for the kind word in calling the blog one of the two best political blogs in the state.
