Education Budget Agreement Reached
Though we have a special session starting today because no deal on the state education budget could be reached, I had heard optimism and confidence that a budget deal would be quickly reached in the special session.
And indeed, a deal was announced even before the session started today at 4 p.m.
There were other matters in the Governor’s call. See the complete call here.
From looking over the call, don’t see the grocery tax/income tax bill nor do I see the smoking ban.
The prisoner furlough bill is long over due, the A&I unit in Hamilton is over flowing.

Anyone on here have a clue why Bobby Singleton went against his own party on the original education budget? I saw the usual dissidents on the list, but I hadn’t realized that Singleton was among them on this bill until now.

SamfordDem, as a matter of pure speculation, what major institution is in Tuscaloosa County and a part of Singleton’s district or was the lack of an appropriation to Tuskegee University and Talladega College?
Party loyalty on the state level has an elastic definition dating back to those years of one party rule.

Is anyone else embarrassed for our state that Paul Hubbert controls EVERYTHING (meaning the majority of our tax dollars) and that NO ONE seems to care?
The Gov should be ashamed. The Higher Ed lobbyists should be ashamed. The people of Alabama should be ashamed.
How do we allow a union boss to tell our representatives (and therefore us) what to do and then allow him to control the PR enough to say that taking money away from benefits for his union members is “hurting our children”. Give me a BREAK!!!!!!
