Love’s Primary Targets
Jay Love is another Republican campaigning against “liberals” in an ad for an Alabama GOP Congressional primary.
Politico has a story on its front page about the ad for the AL-02 seat being the first to reference the California Supreme Court decision to strike down the state’s ban on gay marriage.
Is the ad’s point that others in this Alabama GOP primary are embracing Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and the California Supreme Court’s decision? Or, by being first with such an ad, that Love hates liberals faster?
I find this interesting. The early signs are that Republicans who are trying to link their Democratic opponents to national figures like Obama and Pelosi are not having success. The reasoning here, I suppose, is that in the primary you are trying to stir up your core support. Still interesting.

Danny - this just in: It looks like Jay Love has hired longtime Democrat master of negative campaigning Joe Perkins to work for him. I have heard this from a very good source. Perkins handled Love’s campaign against Bob McKee with the famous 11th hour (allegedly)false ad against Bob McKee.
Perkins almost ALWAYS goes very negative, and he has a contract with the Alabama State Employees Union - Love’s biggest backers. They may have actually brought him in to work this campaign. Stay tuned -if this rumor is true, Love may be returning (at least behind the scenes) to his pro-union past roots.
Joe is very good - much better than Dax. So that would be a plus for Jay - IF he can keep voters from knowing he has a James Carville-type Democrat heavily involved in his campaign.
P.S. -Dax Swatek has a contract with state employee union lobbyist Greg Jones - VERY interesting . . .wonder if the state employees’ union is getting money to Jay in that way (by paying his consultants?)

My understanding is that Joe Perkins is not working with the Love campaign. If you have someone or some evidence that shows otherwise, I am glad for you to contact me, but otherwise I understand there is no basis for such a claim.

Danny - I sent you an e-mail about the source. I trust it.

If it’s verifiable, I’m happy for people to know, but until then, my understanding continues to be that Perkins is not working with the campaign.

I think if you contaced the source he would in fact verify it.

Just for the record, if you watch all of the Love commercials they use a lot of the exact same footage over and over again. But then again I guess he made them when he couldn’t contribute anymore money and he was only pulling in $40,000 for a quarter. I really wish he would have put a little more effort into the commercials, at least change your shirt before doing your “I approve this message” and don’t reuse the footage of your family walking down the steps at church over and over. We get it you want us to know you are a Christian, instead of beating the concept in our head you should just live your life the right way and do as you are supposed to and everyone will know you are a Christian. By jumping up and down and saying look at me I’m a Christian you make it seem as if you have something to hide.

AT least that footage is better than some I’ve seen where the candidate walks across a pasture in dress shoes, not looking at where he is stepping.

Wm Wyatt - Love’s commercials look very professional. I don’t know where you are coming from on that one. He throws out Christian too much but they are well done image wise.

Yes they look professional, but they constantly reuse the same footage. I am tired of seeing the clip of his family walking down the front steps of the church, they least they could have done was have him change shirts before recording his “I approve this message lines” or even changed the background. Instead it looks like they just fed him line after line in the same 30 minutes session to get as much done as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible (CHEAP).

Christian Conservative Change Congress really needs. That was too many Cs in a row. Also, it looks like he’s trying to talk his way out of a traffic ticket about ten seconds in.
