The House bill on grocery sales tax that was mentioned in this morning’s post passed 63-38 this afternoon. If it passes the Senate, it will go to a vote of the people in November.
There’s a report circulating that the bill didn’t get the 63 votes needed until Randy Hinshaw voted the machines of two members who weren’t present: Richard Laird and Duwayne Bridges.
JD,
I did not vote for that bill. It was a constitutional amendment requiring 63 affirmative votes to pass. I was on the phone when they called for the vote, but not voting on this has exactly the same effect as a NO….
Rep Randy Hinshaw voted the machine of Rep. Duwayne Bridges, who is out of the country. Rep Hinshaw, who posts on this blog on occassion cheated the taxpayers just as he does with his job.
I don’t think Hinshaw is under “subpoena” any longer. He didn’t take the 5th like the rest of them. He went in and testified and was subsequently cleared by the grand jury.
Not voting is the age old excuse by the weak or the paid off in Montgomery. After a 62% pay raise you would think they would be at their desk for a key vote.
JD – if referring to mike ball, i will call you to task on him being “weak or paid off”. Rep Ball is one of the good guys, having more in montgomery like him would be a welcome change.
JD,
You obviously don’t know me very well. I might be lots of things, but being one who doesn’t attend to his duties or being afraid to face an issue aren’t among them. If I was ducking this issue, why did I come on this blog and express my opposition to this bill in its present form? Why was I in the Huntsville Times expressing my concerns about this bill. Like I said, not voting on a constitutional amendment has exactly the same effect as a no.
Come by and see me sometime if you’re in Montgomery and I’ll be glad to show you what I do. I’m busy as a pair of jumper cables at a family reunion. Yes, I will occasionally miss a vote because I’m on the phone, drafting legislation, in another meeting, up in the Senate, or in the restroom (I’m not quite as dedicated as Steve Windom was a few years ago :)
I wish my friend Hinton Mitchem godspeed and good luck after his retirement from public service. Hinton, on Monday, announced what many had suspected — he will not seek re-election. I remember meeting Hinton for the first time while I was a student at Auburn University. He served the people of his [...]
Here is a quick preview of the upcoming week in Montgomery. This week will be a standard legislative schedule for the House. We will be in session on Tuesday and Thursday with committee meetings scheduled for Wednesday.
The House will take up a ten minute calendar this week. A ten minute calendar is [...]

Can they allow someone to vote by proxy….and did he have their proxy?
Rule 32, which prohibits members from voting the machines of absent members, was not being enforced.
The following Republican voted to raise your taxes: Ball, Bentley, Bridges by Hinshaw, Collier, Greeson, Thomas (E.).
But only if you pay Federal Income Tax

Hinshaw cheats: Were you there?
Just add this to Hinshaw’s other problems, he one of the “dippers” under subpoena.

Doesn’t do any good if Ball is not where is is paid to be. On the floor of the House. Skipping a vote is a Montgomery move to avoid an issue.
Saw today Hinsaw admitted to voting several machines.
One man one vote, not in the Alabama House
Rule 32 was suspended by agreement with the person who first invoked it. It was not enforced because it was not invoked.
