  • HaHa!

This article should have a subhead: Republican Hubris Kills Chances Everywhere.

This is good for Senator Smith. With her liberal voting record on tax hikes and being the AEA candidate in that race, she should be happy that her chances have increased according to this story.

Smith didn’t vote for the Amendment 1 tax hikes – that is not true Blue. That is a provable falsehood. But Jay Love voted for every single one of them. And since Love has been in the legislature HE isthe only one who has taken money from AEA. You have a lot of nerve Blue . . .

Blue, you need to go back and check Smith’s SOS reports – if you had done that you would know that she did NOT take any money from AEA in 2002 or 2006 while Love pocketed multiple thousands of AEA money ( and I would suggest that you need to look at SMITH’s reports and not just AEAs; when you REFUSE a donation and send it back they sometimes don’t alter their reports. But I can promise you that is it is cold hard fact that Jay Love took big AEA money in 2002 – and Harri Anne Smith turned it down and sent it back.

Jay Love is the candidate with big AEA money in this millenium – and the facts back that up. Smear tactics are especially distasteful when they have no backing in facts.

Either Senator Smith needs to amend one more campaign finance report or the Secretary of State has made a terrible error. In 2006 she took $2,500 from the State Employees Union and in 1998 she took $10,000 from Paul Hubbert. She also voted in favor of Amendment One. Check your facts and drop the qualifiers.

  • Don’t Forget 2002

No – wrong again Blue Dog. You are wrong a lot, BTW. Harri Anne Smith did NOT vote for Amendment One and that is proven fact. The entire senate voted for the bill to allow the REFERENDUM – HB1; the taxes were contained in a package of about 20 OTHER bills – she voted NO on all taxes (source: Alabama Legislative Information System Online – 2003 first Special Session). She voted against each and every tax – Jay Love and David Grimes voted FOR the taxes(again, the source is the Alabama Legislative Information System online – 2003 First Special Session). By the way, this also proves that Love did NOT just “vote for the referendum” as alleged earlier on this board – the referendum and the taxes are in SEPARATE bills. So the record PROVES Love and Grimes voted YES on the REFERENDUM AND THE TAXES. THAT is cold hard fact – no qualifiers.

I seem to be citing provable facts a lot more than you, BTW Blue . . .

Bluedog, your ignorance or lack of experience with SOS reports is showing. The SOS just posts finance reports made by AEA etc. – the mistakes on them are NOT made by the SOS office. This mistake was made by AEA.

Harri Anne Smith did NOT take AEA money in this millenium. Her report is correct – AEA made a mistake and that can be easily proven (and will be if needed) by bank records. There is no need for HER to amend her report when it is correct – the mistake is AEAs.

She didn’t take AEA money in this millenium. It is fact. You need to forget this one Bluedog.

  • [...] Whereas voters in Illinois and elsewhere may be taking out their dissatisfaction on GOP candidates, plenty of Alabama Republicans are glad that is not so much the case in Alabama – to the point that a Democrat (Tom Butler) interested in a seat held by a retiring Democrat (U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer) would rather switch and run as a Republican. Even the Democrats in Alabama who are running for Congress as Democrats are not particularly embracing the Democrat label. [...]

HER report shows she took the AEA money from Paul Hubbert.

  • Anonymous

Not in this millenium it doesn’t.

  • BlueDogHarriAnne

    Oh, another qualifier

  • Anonymous

Let’s put it this way – since Jay Love has been in politics – the last two state elections – he has taken thousands of dollars from AEA. In that same period, Harri Anne Smith has taken zero. Nada. Goose egg.

    That is a fact.

  • Nixon

Campaign consultants squaring off again. [Yawn].

  • BlueDogHarriAnne

    Another qualifier. Weak Weak Weak.

Any response (or qualifier) on the money she took in 2006 from the State Employees Association? That was in “this millenium”.

  • Jay's no BlueDog - he's Yellower than Jimmy Rane

She didn’t deliberately hide that money with dirty campaign tricks like Jay Love. And I find it highly interesting that Love seems to be using the same tactics of hiding his donors until after the election in this race as he did in 2002.

Legislative Dispatch

A Look from the Rearview Mirror

This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session.  For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end.  For others, it was one that ended much too quickly.  It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

Putting Students First

As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
