Therein lies the problem, there is only one real liberal in the bunch. Maybe that is why 43,000 Alabama children don’t have access to quality health care. Maybe that is why the infant mortality rate is so high in Alabama. Maybe that is why Alabama’s public schools are crumbling. Maybe that is why Alabama students have low test scores in math and science. Maybe that is why a majority of Alabama students are reading below grade level. Maybe that is why so many in Alabama live in poverty. Maybe that is why there are no jobs in Alabama (unless you are an immigrant or a guest worker). Maybe that is why college football coaches are paid millions while public school teachers have to beg for cost of living raises. Maybe that is why gasoline is over $3.00 per gallon. Maybe that is why the cost of food and milk is sky high. Maybe that is why there aren’t enough police on our streets and crime is rising. We need more Liberals!
Ah, the National Journal’s assessment of liberal v. conservative, how utterly useless and utterly skewed conservative for every election cycle. In 2000, “most liberal” was Al Gore, in 2004, “most liberal” was John Kerry, and in 2008, “most liberal” is Barack Obama. National Journal is nothing is not predictable.
Homeboy,if you want more liberals you can try to elect Jay Love in District 2 as he pushed hard for liberal unions and for tax hikes . . .that way you could sneak a liveral RINO in masquerading as a “Christian Conservative” . . .
Alabama schools are a mission of the state. You should look to your state reps to fund them properly. Also, the representatives listed have no control over the salaries of college football coaches.
Margaret,
Did I say in my previous post that the listed representatives had control over the salaries of college football coaches?
Also the Representatives listed are our State Reps. and I do look for them to fund state schools.
Matrix,
The only people that have a problem with unions are the corporate special interest who value profit over people. As far as the tax hikes are concerned I will only say you get what you pay for. If taxes needed to be raised in order to improve the quality of life for all the citizens of the State of Alabama, I’m all for it. Don’t have much use for so called “Christian Convervatives”.
bhmhomeboy – Maybe these are U.S. Congressmen. But what the heck.
Maybe that is why our unemployment rate is among the lowest in the nation. Maybe you should check the U.S. Dept. of Labor statistics. Maybe that is why our Pre-K program was recently voted best in the nation. Maybe that is why our two-year college system has been cleaned up. Maybe that is why Alabama has recruited industries like Mercedes-Benz, Thyssen Krupp, Northrop Grumman-EADS and Hyundai.
Maybe you should run for Congress as a Liberal and fight the horrific conservatives over these problems.
nlacey – ‘National Journal’ is a liberal magazine. When they say someone is liberal, I believe them…
Homey, These guys represent Alabama in Washington. It is the job of our state reps who work in Montgomery to fund education in the state.
Hey Jimmy
Our unemployment rate is among the lowest in the nation because unemployment benefits have run out. Actually the unemployment rate for African Americans is one of the highest in the nation.
Thanks for mentioning the companies like Mercedes and Hyundai that Democratic administrations brought to Alabama. I understand they are fighting the Northrop Grumman-EADS in Washington.
The pre-K program was voted one of the best in nation? That’s nice. Because after students leave the Pre K program all bets are off.
The the two year college system isn’t being “cleaned up”, it’s being used for partisian political gain. Nice try.
Has anyone checked out HarriAnne Smith’s records at the secretary of state’s office? Miss Smith took quite a bit of money from those same groups that she criticizes her opponents for taking. HarriAnne Smith not only voted for Amendment One, but she also is the darling of the AEA and Paul Hubbert.
Harri Anne did NOT vote for Amendment one, Bozo. She – as well as the entire senate – voted yes on HB1 which allowed the referendum ONLY. (Source – Alabama Legislative Information System Online – 2003 First Special Session). This is in stark contrast to Jay Love, who voted “yes” to more than a DOZEN separate tax hike bills under Amendment One (ibid). This is why Harri Anne got an excellent rating from NFIB for the 2003-2006 quadrennium while Love recieved a D level 67 rating(Source – NFIB newsletter).
In short, the claim that Harri Anne Smith voted for Amendement One is an out and out lie. Of course Jay Love is good at those (Source: Anti-Bob McKeee TV ad run by Love campaign alleging that McKee tried to set up a legislative pension plan run the night befrore the 2002 GOP primary – an ad that was utterly false).
Insofar as AEA money, you guys might want to look at Harri Anne’s SOS reports and not just AEA’s – you might see that the money you are alleging was in fact not solicited by Harri Anne and was returned by Harri Anne and never cashed. You may have to rethink a few things when you realize that.
bhmhomeboy – I can’t find to numbers to back up your “unemployment among African Americans” statement, but I guess your implying that our unemployment numbers should be based on race.
The Pre-K program is a start. And a good one at that. How do you propose that we revamp the education system overnight?
The two-year college system is being “cleaned up.” When these indictments pan out and people are convicted I suspect you’ll make the claim that our judges are just working for the conservatives. Because they’re all guilty of being part of the right wing conspiracy, too, right?
The “political gain” is a by-product of the Chancellor’s work in the two-year college system. Obviously if people like what he’s doing, he stands to gain support.
Uh Jimmy,
The only “support” the Chancellor has is from right wing conservative Republicans. The only ones that “like what he is doing” are the right wing conservative Republicans. The two year college system is being “cleaned up” allright, “cleaned up” of Democrats. I leave it to you to make the claim that our judges are working for the conservatives. I don’t know about a “right wing conspiracy”, but I do know that Democrats and anyone who supports Democrats are under attack, I mean indictment. If you want to call it a right wing conspiracy be my guest.
I’m not implying that our “unemployment numbers are based on race”. I am saying loud and clear that the African American unemployment rate in Alabama is higher than the white unemployment rate. Maybe the reason you can’t find the figures to support my claim is because you aren’t looking for them. Why don’t you check with the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations?
Homeboy,
Re: your comment #1, at the end of each sentence add “…because of their parents” until you get to football coaches. Then in your last sentence, replace “liberals” with “concerned parents”, and your paragraph will make perfect sense and you will be perceived as a scholar.
I attended the Alabama Federation of Republican Women’s’ Legislative Days in Montgomery where I had the opportunity to hear all of the Candidates speak for eight minutes after being introduced by Alabama GOP Executive Director, John Ross.
I’ll spare you the details except to say that your preferred Candidate, David Grimes demonstrated his skill as a stand up comedian and told jokes for eight minutes. He really had us all laughing.
The best speaker by far was John Martin. He spoke with such passion and conviction that he had the crowd mesmerized. He received the best applause and the most attention afterwards. The attention and comments he received at the reception later that afternoon, then at the dinner was indicative of the power of his speech. He certainly changed my mind.
