AL-05: Raby Rhymes with Maybe
Is Steve Raby going to run for Alabama’s 5th Congressional District? The Democratic political consultant and Sen. Howell Heflin’s former chief of staff tells the Parlor:
I am considering the race. I have been making my calls and have over $275 k in financial commitments. Have the folks in the counties to start an organization. Have the consultants lined up to put campaign pieces together. Will make a final decision by Monday.
Also, today it became official that the Democrats have one Parker in the race (Parker Griffith) and one Parker out (Susan Parker).
You can check the latest on the AL-05 Big List. A link is in the sidebar.

Steve has worked many campaigns in the background. He will be hard to beat, but I’m surprised he’s giving up his successful business. I suspect he will take a huge pay cut.

If Raby is going to win this race, he better start flooding the airwaves in a hurry. In a short race like this one, the Primary Winner is apt to be the guy with the better Name ID, and Raby doesn’t have a whole lot.
As to your question Blue Dot, considering how other Democrats are blasting Cramer for saying that he wanted the best person to succeed him, not necessarily the best Democrat, I’d say giving to a Republican brings him down a notch in the eyes of some Democrats.

Some Democrats (and swing voters) on the other hand, might prefer a candidate who can work across party lines for the betterment of the 5th CD and the state as a whole - not unlike Bud Cramer did.

Or unlike Tom Butler does.
