Susan Parker Comments on AL-05 Race

Dr. Susan D. ParkerDemocratic PSC Commissioner Susan Parker is starting to sound more and more like a candidate for Alabama’s 5th Congressional District. In a release today, she comments on the race.

Over the past several days, I’ve been humbled as literally hundreds of Alabamians — Democrats, Republicans, and independents — across the 5th Congressional District have urged me to run for Congress. At the invitation of leaders in Washington, this week I am traveling to our nation’s capitol to discuss my potential candidacy. However, my decision will not be based on political or even personal factors, but on the most effective way to help the working families of our district. While I am still prayerfully considering my decision, I am doing what is necessary to prepare to hit the ground running should I decide to enter the race.

With gas prices approaching $4 a gallon, healthcare costs rising, and our economy on the verge of crisis, middle class families are working harder and harder just to pay the bills. As someone who’s struggled to make mortgage payments, to keep gas in the car, and food on the table, I wake up every day trying to make life a little better for middle class families. It’s unfortunate that we are losing a leader of the caliber of Bud Cramer, and as a proud Bud Cramer Democrat I will work to ensure that the next representative will continue his record of independence, common-sense, and fighting for middle class families.

Any time you hear the phrase “working families” or passive phrasing like “traveling…to discuss my potential candidacy” look out, a Dumocrat is running for office.

  • JT

I’m a Republican, but I respect Susan Parker.

  • JD

Did she win her own county when see ran for the Senate?

  • BlueDog

Haven’t heard much out of Griffith. I wonder if he’s cooling off and going to let Susan Parker have it.

I hear Tom Young is definitely out of this race

  • BlueDog

Danny said that a couple days ago Anon #5.

  • Reactionary

She complains about gas prices, but both Democrat candidates for President plan to raise gas taxes (carbon tax).

Since it’s such a big issue for Parker that she mentions gas twice in two paragraphs, I look forward to her repudiating that idea of her party and her pledge not to raise gas taxes.

  • Scorpius

    React-

She should go even further and announce her support to drill in Alaska, expand coastal drilling and advocate cutting federal taxes on gasoline.

    As for her release, GROANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

Do these pols HAVE to sound so political when they issue a release??? Talk about wind’em up and let’em speak. What a robot.

For gosh sake, just say, “You know, this opportunity really interests me so I’ll do some research on my chances. I’ll let y’all know when I start the campaign. Later.”

Otherwise, spare us the soapbox this early in the game.

This is a classy statement from a classy lady.

Is a “Bud Cramer Democrat” one who is considering endorsing a Republican in this race, since Bud said he would consider it?

  • Funny

Saying you would consider endorsing a Republican is not the same as doing so.

And JD, you’re comparing apples and oranges. Good spelling, though.

  • Anonymous

Yes, but being a Democrat saying you’d consider endorsing a Republican is saying you might endorse a Republican.

  • Terry

I hope Parker Griffith wins, because if the Democrats coalesce around Susan Parker without a truly competitive primary, they may have a leg up (albeit a small one) on the Republicans going into the November elections.

What has Griffith done since being in the senate?
Voted for A paise raise and been in a senate filibuster for two years…..that is what the commericials will say against him the general election. Susan Parker should be the nominee.
