Bits & Pieces from the AL-02 Race
The Harri Anne Smith campaign was on the airwaves first with a radio spot you can hear here.
The Jay Love campaign apparently has the first TV ad running in the AL-02 race. You can watch it on YouTube. (He’s also up on radio - listen here.)
On the Democratic side, Bobby Bright’s campaign has a new website, and, as Parlor readers expected, Cheryl Sabel officially announced her entry into the race yesterday.

She can play ignorant all she wants but her long term consultant knew better. I noticed both of her consultants are from Florida…

Interesting no one is talking about the three reprimand letters Love has received from the FEC. Anyone can go on the FEC site and see them (public information). He refuses to respond to them.

Bobby Bright was here in Dothan yesterday, with the Christian Coalition, speaking out against the bingo associated with the proposed Country Crossing development here.
Bobby is trying to get on the good side of the Christians early

The gall of Love on his radio ad talking about “fighting for tax cuts” when he supported EVERY BIT of the immense Amendment One tax hike is appaling. I think it is dishonest.

Nice try Harri Anne, I would probably be talking about someone else if I violated Federal Election Law. I mean we can’t afford to elect an amatuer.

There are no reprimand letters to Love from the FEC - if so - post the link. Harri anne has violated the law.
In terms of voting for a tax increase - let’s correct the fact that the only vote in the legislature on amendment one was whether or not to let the general public vote on it. what is wrong with allowing something to go to a public vote? get over yourself harry

I am so sick and tired of the Stan Pates of the world
who don’t have the bulls to run for office but will twist the truth and make it suit their purpose. Jay Love only voted to allow the people the right to vote on taxes. Tell me when the last time when any party let you vote on a tax increase. I am sure the
Pate-ites take advantage of every loop hole in the tax code they can, but let a politician obey the law and file his or her papers in the “legal fashion” and all of a sudden, they are dishonest. What hypocrisy!!
If it’s legal, it’s legal, so get off the dishonest stuff. Take your big rear end down and file an ethics
complaint if you feel like you have evidence of wrong doing or better yet, qualify and run for the office yourself. By the way, what have you personally done lately to help your state, community, or charitable group, or are you one of those who just like to complain from your couch. Just for your FYI, I gave three years of my life in a war era to protect your right to spew out these lies, but I have to admit sometimes your type of self righteous garbage makes me sick at my stomach. I have served on many boards, civic groups, drug rehab support groups, mission trips, and view myself as a right wing hawk that used to think he was conservative until all you Roy Moore nuts made me realize that it’s Grace not Works. I think the LORD said it best when HE said, “who art thou O man to judge another man’s servant. Forgive me for rambling but what a deal.

Was Love a REAL Republican, or wasn’t he? If he backed Amendment 1’s passage, he was indeed voting for increased taxes as prescribed by Bob Riley and Drayton Nabors…to the tune of $1 Billion PLUS.
Voting records are a b-tch, ain’t they, legislators?
Comment by Scorpius — March 15, 2008 @ 9:12 pm
Well it was a referendum vote and in my county, that means that the people got to vote. Maybe the
dumbgrass folks in your part of the world can’t make the distinction or understand that big word REFERENDUM. Legislators did not vote on a tax. Again, you are telling an outright lie if you say they did. The vote was to allow each of the bills to be voted on by the people as presented. If the people did not like the proposals (and they didn’t) then they had the ability (given to them by the legislature) to vote
yes or no (and they did). votes are a b-tch but it’s dumb grasses like you that make it even more difficult because you have to be spoon fed and even then, “you people” as my good friend Jack Nicholson once said “You can’t handle the truth” Jay Love is a good man and a fine legislator. He has been a progressive leader for his area. As for McKee, Give me one bill that he iniated and passed during his entire career. I challenge you!!! Produce one and I will apologize and acknowledge how brilliant your observations and opinions are. Then after Bob left the legislature, he went over and cried to the Guv until he got a job as head of a state agency. (Cosmotology) I know good old Bob really knew a lot about that subject matter. Don’t talk about hypocrites until you clean out your closet buddy.

Danny are you going to re-adjust the lines in the district 2 race since Harri Anne violated the law. How in the world is she going to be able to take the moral high ground and look like a credible candidate when the 1st thing she does as a candidate is violate 2 Federal Campaign finance laws. If by May Harri Anne looks as if she is in the race Schmidtke,Woods and Love are going to beat her over the head with this and if she were to be the nominee so is Bright.
Comment by Harri Anne Smith ”we can’t afford to elect amateur” — March 16, 2008 @ 7:46 am
If Danny readjusts the line it would probably be more likely to reflect upward movement by Grimes and Woods and a downward slide by Love. As Danny pointed out before, Smith is almost assured of a spot in the runoff by geography; the others three are attempting to secure the other spot. Woods is the wild card here and Love has to feel threatened - he sure appeared to be threatened by his reportedly wild antics at the Farmer’s Market cafe on Thursday.

Wild antics at the Farmer’s Market?

[…] We’ve noted the race’s first ad on the radio and first ad on TV. One reader believes this is the first ad of the race on network TV as opposed to cable TV. Update: A reader writes, “Actually, Craig Schmidtke has been on broadcast in Dothan for about 10 days.” […]

Who can take Harri Anne Smith seriously as a candidate? Not only did she break two federal laws by using corporate funds in a federal campaign, she committed an ethics violation. She is also a member of the bankers’ club that spent $300 million lobbying Congress to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act that has led to the sub-prime housing mortgage crisis that has got the economy in a mess. To elect Harri Anne would be puting the fox in charge of the hen house.
Comment by Big Al — May 17, 2008 @ 1:01 pm
Furthermore, Jay Love is guilty of accepting corporate funds for his federal campaign. He has also used corporate assets by using his employees in a compaign. Is it any wonder that David Grimes, who has had a very hard time raising funds, has climbed to the top of the latest MRI poll that was commissioned for Harri Anne?
