A Barely Related AL-02 Note

Filed under: AL and DC — Danny @ 9:49 am

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedIn the post yesterday with bits and pieces related to the race for the AL-02 Congressional seat, I meant to mention that the Decatur Daily (now available online by subscription only) had an article this week about a Montgomery law clerk who is trying to draft Democratic PSC Commissioner Susan Parker into the race for the 2nd Congressional District seat.

She was adamant that she had no intererest in AL-02, but acknowledged that she would consider running for AL-05 if and when Bud Cramer retires.

Not sure if this is a bit or a piece.

  1. Is Carter Wells (Cramer’s chief of staff) gearing up for AL-05?

  2. That race will draw a lot more than just Cramers assistant when it opens. Senator Orr would probably be at or near the top of the GOP list,Mo Brooks is another one that comes to mind and a few more GOPers in the private sector in Huntsville would probably jump in as well. On the democrat side you would probably have a top candidate from the Shoals(State Rep Irons?) in the race along with a few from Huntsville such as Senator Griffith. Overall the GOP would be favored to win that seat given the trends in Morgan and Madison Counties over the last decade.

  3. Why would anyone be attempting to draft Susan Parker into the AL 2 race? Bobby Bright may be a longshot, but he is undoubtedly the best shot Dems have at that seat.

That said, Susan Parker would be a good candidate for AL 5 if and when Bud Cramer retires.

  4. I am a Republican but I vote for Susan Parker. She has a great story and is a hard worker. We need more elected officials like her.

  5. You are a good Republican JT and a great American for putting the interest of the people over the interest of the party.

  6. Bright is well known and widely admired in the district. Most don’t care he is running as a Democrat, just that he is running. Great candidate.

  7. Most will care…I assure you. A big D by his name means Defeat. He better hope Obama is the dem nominee for Prez or Bright’s chances are actually rather “dim” for Congress should I ay. And this is from the real “WiregrassVoter”
