Onelife, in this state no, there is a state law permitting it except for employees covered by the federal Hatch Act. ASEA/AEA, et al would also form superduper voltron to defeat any such measure. However, other states do it. After all, the fox does not guard the hen house.

>>I’d also go so far as barring legislators from holding any government job from part time census taker and up.

Isn't that the same thing as barring all government employees from running for the legislature? Can we do that?

Didn't Troy have to recuse himself b/c of his asking Roy Johnson for a favor? To hire a friend of his, or something?

At first people were mad that neither of the Republicans who had taken jobs with the 2 year system had been investigated. I have seen and heard Greeson named in that complaint. Now that he is being prosecuted, they are still mad. Suddenly he is being prosecuted because he is not Republican enough.

Where is Troy King on all of this? Has Riley excluded him from the investigation or will King not do Riley's bidding? Amazing that Alabama's top cop is no where tobe found in these investigations!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Republicans who tote the water for AEA, get the same "favors" as the Democrats who do the toting. Greeson should not be susprised that his free ride has drawn Federal attention. It's time for all this local corruption to pay the price. We stil lhave Sen Bedford out there, who "donated" tax payers money to the UA and then had them put his name on the plaque as the donor.

Well Ms Alice had to find herself a republican scapegoat and she found Todd Greeson who would not be a yes man for the grand old gop. Todd has for many years been friends with Lowell Barron a senator from Dekalb County which is the same county he represents. For everyone's information the republican party in Dekalb County has supported Todd when he has stood up against the grand old party leadership because he stood up for the voters who sent him to Montgomery and not political hacks. Maybe a special prosecutor should be called in to investigate Alice she clearly is in a panic and decided to try to show this week she is not a person who would politically prosecute anyone. Oh no not desperate alice . Wonder if Blackledge told her about Greeson I heard he got calls from folks this summer at northeast jr college and wrote nothing about it so much for fair and balanced journalism. I also wonder what Alice thought when Rev Clarke showed up at the door she enters at the federal courthouse and prayed for her. She needs all the prayer she can get, people now see her for what she is a political hack with a license to persecute. Must be a bad situation poor alice.

so interesting that you posted it twice. yet another liberal conspiracy theorist. good gracious, there is no reasoning with Democrats, it's all about looking for ulterior motives. Anonymous, you ought to be trying to get Phil Poole to pass legislation and not daydreaming about the "Republican machine.

"Greeson warned by GOP Caucus

Published April 22, 2005

Rep. Todd Greeson (R-Ider) said Tuesday he would not be blackmailed by the Republican Caucus – and that he had resigned from the organization.

That was Greeson’s answer to a warning letter he received from the Alabama House Republican Caucus Steering Committee earlier this month."

Isn't it more than a little interesting that this particular Republican is being investigated - the one that is cross purposes with Riley, Hubbard, and the Republican machine. I am sure that it is just a coincidence.

You are correct JT, the Chancellor, Governor and Board of Education should all be saluted for their guts to step up and correct this ongoing problem. Democrats will still believe this is politically motivated, but that is b/c of their need to always blame someone and not simply take responsibility for their actions (see covenant for the future, blaming gov and not passing legislation for 4 year reappraisals like they promised)

problem, I plan on waiting for the trials before commenting on guilt or innocence, since all I know is what I read in the papers.

However, I believe you would agree with me that both parties should call on their members to resign from the junior college system and the member provide a full public accounting of their job duties and pay both now and at election time.

I'd also go so far as barring legislators from holding any government job from part time census taker and up.

No Walt, these jobs should be eliminated and Roy Johnson's mess should have been cleaned up years ago. But I refuse to believe that accepting these jobs was criminal unless Johnson gained legislative favors in return. As of right now, that doesn't seem to be the case.

It is sorta disappointing but expected to see the belief that high pay low work public jobs are the rightful spoils of office.
