State Rep in ‘Physical Altercation’

Self-portrait of Vincent van GoghRep. Spencer Collier (R – Irvington) was involved in a fight (or as the police report calls it, “a physical altercation”) in a parking lot on the Faulkner State Community College campus in Bay Minette Wednesday. WKRG-TV has the news on its web site including a video report and a copy of the police report.

Despite the news video report saying, “Bay Minette Police Chief Michael Michael Rowland says Collier staggered into the police department lobby and wanted to file a complaint,” neither party actually filed charges.

What the news doesn’t tell you… During the fight, the other man bit Collier’s ear so severely that it needed to be re-attached. One version of the story has it that the men were rolling around in the parking lot and that the ear was bitten off, but a source close to the incident on campus told the Parlor that the ear was not completely severed. The campus source’s understanding was that the ear was re-attached with glue.

Put this one in the ohmigosh category.

Further embarrassment from the legislature and its cast of characters.

Just keeping an ear out for his constituents…

  • Straight Thinker

As a Republican, undoubtedly he was “Fighting For the Integrity of The Two Year College System.”

Either that or waiting behind a dumpster to ask some dude if he “wanted to party.”

  • walt moffett

    Sounds like Mardi Gras

  • Re-attached with glue???? Good grief.

  • Sickofit

Come on now, why don’t you check out the story behind the ear because there is no brain behind it. Maybe the other man’s daughter was done wrong by Spencer’s son. Maybe her life is forever altered by that of a selfish young man that is constantly sheltered by his father. If you have a daughter and you knew the story then there you would have it, the ear would not be that important. Seems to me that if you focused on the victim here Spencer would not be so pityful and pathetic in the eyes of the public.

  • Sickofit

    Correction he would be pathetic.

Thanks for the story, Danny. It reminded me to put Reservoir Dogs in my Netflix queue.

Van Gogh is a pretty good choice for a graphic, but I have to ask:

Was “Iron” Mike Tyson not available?

  • Jennylyn

MAYBE sickofit you don’t know what you are talking about. MAYBE you just want to get others thinking that you have some inside knowledge and clearly you don’t. This was an issue of Spencer defending his son from physical harm. There is a reason why the other man did NOT press charges. And as far as his son goes, this was a presently dating, in love couple. So, no “life altering” doing someone wrong song here. Also, GLUE?? come on, his ear is just fine.

  • Sickofit

Jennylyn yes there is a reason why the other man did not press charges but only he could answer that.

having had an ear bitten before, this is not a laughing matter (especially as cold as its been). however, if the beginning of this year is any indication of things to come, it’s going to be fun. buckle up danny and quit your day job.

Will this limit his ability, as a legislator, to participate in hearings?

  • Anonymous

And what hearings would it affect, #16? The ones on EARmarking, perhaps?

  • poljunkie

I have to stop reading all of this. It is giving
    me an ear-y feeling…

Sounds like he was the victim of a “lobe” blow.

No big deal . I was at Auburn when Barry Mask bit a Pike’s ear lobe off in a bar brawl . It worked – the guy quit fighting ….. Our legislators are human too .

  • Pike Rd. Momma

Thats funny ….I have met Rep. Collier before …he seems pretty stout – wasn’t he a state trooper ? We need him back on the force to kick some butt out there !Its going to be a great session !

  • BooHooHoo

Oh poor pitiful, Spencer Collier! We should feel sorry that his adult son needed his daddy’s protection!! Let your son be the man that he portrays to everyone that he is & deal with his own problems & by the way….your son lied to you & caused you to act like a fool! Guess you have figured that one out now!!! I hope your threats to Mr. Wheat, that have caused him not to press charges against you, don’t backfire!! You would be in a world of hurt!!

  • curious2008

if you know so much about the story people than spill it quit leaving us in suspense

  • Anonymous

    how old is the son?

  • BooHooHoo

Jennylynn, if you knew the real story you would know that “love” is not what is keeping this couple together. This relationship for this young lady has definately spelled out the rest of her life for her, so yes, life-altering!!! Spencer Collier’s son is known for his abusive tendencies with females….why is he so defensless when it comes to altercation’s with men. Jennylynn, you must be his mommy because the only female that i know of that supports this particular Collier is his mommy!I hope she knows, she created a monster! Thanks alot!

  • BooHooHoo

The son is 18, will be 19 this July!

  • Lyn Johnson

Collier is a delegate for Mike Huckleberry. I guess that says it all

  • billy ray hays

Its a good thing the guy didnt bite something else off. You could call him the “gooberless republican” if he had.

  • Terry

I’ve been appalled at some of the comments on here, especially #6, #24, #26. Spencer Collier was a man of the law before coming to the State House and we need to keep him in our prayers during this time. Those of you thinking it’s cute to make ear-related jokes and speculate as to the reason of the fight need to take a step back and consider what you’re saying.

  • BooHooHoo

I’m appalled at you, Terry, for speculating that we are speculating about the reason of the fight. You should consider what you are saying & whom you are defending….a man of the law…yes, but he also took advantage of that position. He does need praying for like everyone, including me for gossiping about this man, but sometimes, you just have to spill it! Let’s all pray for his secretary & hope she gets to keep her Mercedes! What a kind & giving man of the law!

  • Expect more

    Terry try this.

Collier is a member of the Alabama House of Representatives. He represents the people of this state and those of District 105. He is also a church deacon according to his bio here:

    http://www.legislature.state.al.us/house/representatives/housebios/hd105.html

No matter what his motivation was, his conduct was less than desirable for a member of the legislature.

    Prayers for his ear? Really?!

How about some prayers that we get legislators who don’t resort to violence when they run out of ideas.

  • Jennylyn

He has no secretary, and noone has a mercedes!

  • Fo-fiver

Perhaps Mr. Wheat insulted his mother. That seems adequate provocation for other Republican lawmakers.

  • MysticMackerel

Spencer had a secretary named Jamie when he was the director of the Alabama Safety Institute, that is until her husband found out and Sam made them both resign.

  • Michelle

BooHOOHOO did you have a child that got dumped by Chris. Or maybe you are like a Mrs. Robertson and you got dumped by him.

  • Who’s Mrs. Robertson? You might want to check those cultural references.

  • Margaret

Lighten up, Terry, the ear jokes are funny.

  • Michelle

oops I should have not said that that was just mean.

  • Michelle

    Oh is it Robinson

  • Anna Lee

play with fire and you get burned

  • Anna Lee

i hear that spencer and the mayor down in the bayou are cousins, that explains a lot!

  • Margaret

Yes, it’s Mrs. Robinson in the movie and in the song.

  • Peter

Pleas for better behavior by our legislators seem to be going in one ear and out (the remains of) the other.

  • What is the deal with Republicans being involved in knock-down-drag-out brawls? I guess now Senator Bishop has a brawling buddy.

This story is just too unreal.

  • Roy

Wait, his son is 19? The press reports say that Spencer is 34. They are close enough in age to be dating the same women. Still, I am firmly against ear-biting (except for a little nibble between consenting adults).

  • What a wonderful, upstanding dude to have serve in our legislature. One of his sons is a wee lad. I remember seeing him serve as a page during some Judiciary Cmte. hearings.
