Johnny Cash and AG Troy King - Pre-United!
…or The Man in Back of the Man in Black.
Republican Attorney General Troy King re-wrote some lyrics and recorded a duet (kinda) with hard-living (and formerly-living) Johnny Cash. Distributed to about 25 friends and supporters as Christmas gifts, the recording recast Cash’s unreleased and unfinished version of “My Elusive Dreams.” The song was written by Alabama native Billy Sherrill and was a number one hit in 1967 for Tammy Wynette and David Houston. Sherrill provided the recording to King.
While I already posted about the recording, I wanted to share a picture of the cover of the cd King distributed last month. You can find the full story at the Press-Register.
Hear an excerpt from the song here.
Since Johnny Cash would undoubtedly be more prominent if their duo was real, I almost called the post, “The Man in Back of the Man in Black.” But since twosomes are sometimes advertised as “United!” and later “Re-United!”, and since these two have not (yet) actually met, I decided to call them “Pre-United!”

[…] Of course, King has his own country musicĀ pursuits, but is that why Houston County bingo hall developer Ronnie Gilley gave the AG star billing at a party last year? So will Gilley be giving Sir Troy his own personal recording session as a “thanks for being there for me” gift? Maybe they can dig up some other dead singers for him to partner with. hahahaha
