Clash for PSC Presidency: Small? Or Brawl?
The Montgomery Independent has three reasons why Republican Public Service Commission President Jim Sullivan may opt for retirement instead of a re-election campaign: “Baxley, ethics and business.”
Since the Parlor broke the news that former Democratic Lt. Governor Lucy Baxley was eyeing the position, many have been contemplating the showdown between one of the bigger names in state Democratic politics and the Republican incumbent who has had the post since 1983. It just may not happen, say columnist Bob Gambacurta. We’ve heard similar speculation here in the Parlor that Sullivan will announce his retirement, though I’ve also heard that Sullivan really does not want to be seen as running from a fight.
The Montgomery Independent column does not mention what we’ve heard here, that former PSC Commissioner George Wallace, Jr. (R) is considering a run for the PSC Presidency especially if Sullivan chooses not to run.
