ACJRC Endorses Shaw Today

Update: Some details of this post have been corrected.

Greg ShawThe Parlor has learned that the Alabama Civil Justice Reform Committee today endorsed Judge Greg Shaw of the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals as their candidate for next year’s state Supreme Court race. The ACJRC met this morning with Republican candidates Shaw and Jim Main, State Finance Director.

While this trade association supported Gov. Bob Riley in 2006, they are parting ways for this race, as indications are that Riley backs Main. Indeed one insider has told me that “Main will get whatever help he needs from the Governor.”

FWIW… I hear that Johnny Adams (of the Alabama Poultry & Egg Association) and Billy Canary (of BCA) asked this morning that each of the member boards be allowed to interview each candidate, but they were overruled. John Pudner (of ALFA) and Matt McDonald led the opposition to that proposal. Former State Bar Association President Douglas McElvy has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the race, but he did not speak to the ACJRC this morning.

Unfortunately, this can only mean that Judge Shaw has agreed to drink the Kool-Aid and to carry the flag for the ACJRC’s radical anti-consumer and anti-worker agenda. We should just begin calling him Harold, Jr.

Shaw is too independant for that. I think this means that anyone who has ever touched a trial lawyer will never be supported by the business community.

Shaw and is wife have great grass roots support. That will carry the day in a GOP primary where turnout is around 15%.

“BUSH HAS TURN THE WHITE HOUSE INTO A DEN OF THIEVES”
President Bush, Vice President Cheney and their executioner Lieutenant Karl Rove have disregarded the values so cherished by the Republican Party. Their ideology have been to channel millions of dollars to those party members who have pledged total absolute loyalty to the Bush administration. This includes creating/channeling campaign funds for their elections, making appointments of the undeserving and/or unqualified boot lickers to high Federal offices and awarding large military/government contracts to thousands of companies that are owned directly or indirectly by his supporters. Many of these contracting companies are sham organizations and/or have no accountability.

We in the “South Central States” have surely suffered the most from the presidency of Bush. It took us over a century to recovered from the scars of General Sherman’s army raping our women/children, burning our homes, crops, and industries. We are now facing another serious dilemma. High ranking Bush followers both state and federal are above the law. With election frauds, illegal campaign contributions (with money being laundered from large oil companies, Tobacco Companies, Gambling Casinos), political profiling and political prosecutions. Our prisons are at three times capacity. Only 59% of our children graduate high school on the average.
