State Sen. Harri Anne Smith (R – Slocomb) will announce her candidacy for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional seat Thursday morning, according to sources close to her.
She will make the third announced Republican candidate for the seat, along with state Representatives Jay Love and David Grimes. No Democrat has announced for the race.
William F. Boyd, a Montgomery mayoral candidate last year, is telling people that he will run for the seat and is not expected to be a major factor in the race. He has not said on what ticket he would run.

She looks kind of like Tennessee’s Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn.
Boyd is a worthless candidate. All he did was try to take down Bright and tried to make it a race about race. At this point all I can say is go Jay Love
Jay Love may have this wrapped up unless Tim James jumps in the race. Harri Anne Smith is a lightweight and most people realize it.
I’m not sure why you guys are underestimating Sen. Smith. If you have doubts about what she can do to win this race, all I have to say is to take a look at what happened in her 1998 State senate race (particularly the fundraising).
Are you kidding me? She has not had a real race yet. Are you talking about knocking off Chip Bailey? She was specifically recrutied to run against him and did little to raise money on her own. She was flush with cash from those in the district knowing bailey was a huge dem and bad for business. he tried to change parties but of course it didn;t work. Smith will actually have to work in this race and take positions on a broad range of issues. That is why so many people are worried…because she has not done that in the past.
I met Harri Anne recently and she seems like a nice lady but she would be in so far over her head in Washington. The “group” in Dothan is doing the district a real disservice with their endorsement of Harri Anne. They have based their decision on the fact that she lives less than 30 miles away from Dothan. Way to go guys!!!
Exactly BB. All the posts on here say the same thing. Nice lady, but in over her head. Someone said she is a sitting duck in a pond off gators. That seems true. The “group” has had second thoughts that she may not be up to the task.

I agree with the Jay Love and AEA and public employees union money. But Harri Anne Smith? There are other candidates that will save us from these two I hope!!!!! Tim James 08
In my honest opinion,The best candidate If he decides to enter would be Bobby Bright.He’s the man with the plans and won’t hesitate to use them .He will be for the people.
Bright will be an interesting candidate. But the most interesting part will be which party he decides to run in. If he runs as a dem he is the obvious nominee but would have a difficult general election in district 2 as a dem.
Danny, if I see one more story on Harri Anne in November I think I will be sick. And I have a feeling we will have one on here very soon. Or maybe 2 or 3 more stories. I don’t blame you, but her campaign seems to shamelessly use this site and other means to have her picture and name all over the place. Maybe it is smart on their part but I have yet to see any real issue come out other than a poll she paid for where the numbers were reported wrong (also not your fault). If she comes out and actually has opinions on something then great let’s hear it then and only then. Just my opinion.

Where did you find out that someone close to the Smith campaign was releasing misleading poll numbers? Here.
Where did you find out that the Wiregrass group that endorsed Harri Anne Smith didn’t even give her a majority vote? Here.
I bet the Smith campaign would agree with you that it could have done without some of those posts.
There have been five posts about the Senator this month. Three of the five weren’t particularly positive (regarding backstage schemes, etc.) Let me know which ones you would have left off. The one about how she put off the Wiregrass group so she could spin things her way? The one where we learn that she is going to announce her candidacy? Or the one where we learn that the Wiregrass group endorsed her? (I got emails all morning that day from people wondering if I had heard anything about that meeting.)
I would be glad to know which ones were not worth putting up.
In the last week, there have been as many posts about Bobby Bright as Harri Anne Smith. When I have news of interest (and assuming other parts of my life leave me enough time for this sideline interest), I’ll pass it along here.

Nice reply Danny. It is true we seem to have several stories on Senator Smith and you are correct that not all of them are favorable. OzarkObserve does make a point though …. that I think the Smith campaign continually leaks info …. as all such camps do i am sure …. but you are correct that this site has done, I think, a good job in correcting any misleading or overly favorable statements a campaign tried to make that are not based on fact. Ya’ll all say she is in over her head because she didn’t have to take a position in the past. But that’s exactly it. Everyone is saying she’s in over her head without gving her a chance to prove her self! Senator Harri Anne Smith is a nice lady and that doesn’t mean that she will be n over her head. I think everyone will be surprised by her persistency and aggression in this race.
