Jay LoveHardcore followers of Alabama politics will be interested to know that Rep. Jay Love (R - Montgomery) is putting together his team for the AL-02 race that includes Dax Swatek, Tim Howe, David Azbell, and pollster Jim McLaughlin. Swatek has worked with many of the Republican heavyweights in Alabama including Governor Bob Riley, Congressman Mike Rogers, Congressman Robert Aderholt, and state party chair Mike Hubbard.

  2. So when does Riley endorse Jay Love?

  3. Jay will have a lot of work to do in the Wiregrass area. But the way it looks, there is not a candidate known district wide so they will all have to work on geographic issues. Tim James may can overcome that easier than most.

  6. I went to the 2nd Congressional meeting last night and I happened to meet Jay Love. He seems fairly intelligent and would probably make a good Congressman. I watched him work the room and he appears to be very likeable. Someone said Bobby Bright was there but I didn’t see him.

  7. Swatek ran the campaign’s of Rogers, Riley and Aderholt all when they were first elected and when they were re-elected. I don’t have a dog in this fight but the team Love has assembled is first rate.

  9. What the heck was Jay Loave doing at an event for local NOT STATE officials. Ridiculous. But then again, I bet Smith was there with bells on as well.

  10. I work for the city of Dothan and whomever the Mayor of Dothan is has been inviting legislators to the event. I have seen legislators coming for years.

  12. Legislatots have been there but never any from Montgomery before. I don;t blame Love though…it was an event to meet a lot of contacts and introduce himself.

  13. Tim Howe is working with the Azteks? Interesting… I hope he can go solo before they irreparably tarnish his reputation.

  14. For all of you who do not know better when the names of Swatek and Azbell are mentioned that really means Billy Canary has been hired to run the campaigns. Those guys are stacking up cash to pay Canary whenever he retires or gets fired from the BCA. So to be fair it was not Swatek and Azbell who lost the McKinney race but rather Riley and Canary. The team Love has assembled all but guarantees the 2nd race will be close between the dems and repubs. Assuming Love can get the elephant nomination.

  16. I understand the whole Dax/Azbell piece is just a front for Claire Austin who is really calling the shots as she always has with Jay Love.

  17. JT you are entitled to your opinion. However, you are the true idiot if you think otherwise than post 14. If you are really passionate about your opinion then challenge the Love campaign to prove otherwise. Are you so sure you want to go down that road. You might be surprised at the money that comes into that firm and the money that is set on a shelf for Canary until a later date. This is how it is legal and how Canary would side step the issue. The fact of the matter is the real reason you have resorted to calling me an idiot is because I have hit close to home and you are a supporter in one way or the other of Love, Swatek, Azbell, Canary, Austin, or others in the GOP family of friends and convenient relationships. Yes I know you will respond otherwise which is what I would expect so go ahead and post your open-minded approach and your non-allegience to any of these folks or Mike Hubbard.

  18. I am not a Love fan. I prefer Tim James based on the folks that have been mentioned thus far for the race. The part I find a poor statement is that if Love is the republican nominee that the race will be close and a democrat could win. I don;t think the race will be close in district 2 as it is out of reach for a democrat…even bright… unless the republican has a huge stumble. I do agree with your point though, that canary, and riley especially, should stay our of primary fights within the republican party. but district 2 is a republican seat and has been since the 1960s. It sure as heck will not change with hillary clinton leading the ticket in 08.

  19. Here’s what strikes me - Jy Love (who owned a nunber of Subway franchises) has hired a guy who was fired from a Krystal (David Azbell) to run his campaign. It’s the Fast Food Campaign!

  20. mr love just saw your comercial again. and again i am insulted by the way you are speaking down about people with a different point of view, from yours. i WILL NEVER vote for you, just because of your negative views. i MIGHT not agree with you. but i WOULD never let you that you are wrong with your beliefs. also, after living in the deep south, for many years, i have found that southerns are more rude and nasty than us northerners. i tell people, that i am amazed of how rude and narrowed minded southerners are.
