HD 12 Dem Candidate Forum
James Fields, Ed Flaig, and Sheila Kretzschmar, Democratic candidates for House District 12, responded to questions yesterday from representatives from the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce and The Cullman Times. You can watch the video from the event here, and the account from The Cullman Times is here.
I have not had opportunity to watch the video. Clue us in if you see something we should know about.
The primary special election is this Tuesday.

Ed Flaig either comes across as a nut or a DINO depending on who you talk too. Sheilia gave another boring performance and Fields came across as the most credible. My mom is planning on voting for Greg Johnson…he’s pretty impressive in person but I dont know if he’s got the name id. Willingham doesnt have many signs out and has done no campaigning on the radio from what I heard…he seems to be relying on his name id from last year. So I think in the end Danny this will be a Fields vs Floyd general election match up.

Ed “American” Flaig (see the closing remarks video) seemed like a nice guy but not someone you want representing 40,000 people. Fields will not win. Although Mrs. Kretzschamr has been somewhat lackluster recently, she has the connections to win this thing.
If Fields is the Democratic nominee, the GOP will pick up this house seat. Plain and simple. Sheila Kretzschmar is the only candidate that can keep this district in the DEM column.

Good lord…Kretchmar comes across as an idiot….and Flaig comes across as a nut…no wonder the Dems are supporting Fields!

Kretzschmar was horrible! Fields was by far the best of the three.

Flaig and Kretschmar look good, but once they start talking it’s Fields all the way. Do looks matter or will the Democrats in HD12 vote on substance? I guess we’ll find out on Tuesday.

Fields’ chances depend on who the Republican nominee turns out to be. It would be difficult, but still possible, for him to defeat Bill Floyd. He would have a much better shot at beating Wayne Willingham. Willingham has some serious skeletons in his closet, not including his family and his own neo-Confederate leanings. I can’t see anybody else getting the nomination on the Republican side. My impression of Kretschmar, shared by most everybody I know, is that she is a nice lady who has done a good job on the school board but is not cut out for Montgomery. That said, her mailouts are nice and her support from the community establishment is strong. She could force a runoff and potentially win it. Flaig will attract some protest votes in Hanceville, but I don’t think that will be enough to make a runoff.
My guess (I have not seen any polls)
Dems:
Fields 48%
Kretschmar 34%
Flaig 18%
Reps:
Willingham: 38%
Floyd: 35%
Johnson: 16%
Parker: 11%
