I have become convinced that state Sen. Harri Anne Smith (of Slocomb) will be a candidate in the Republican primary for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. The announcement may be days, may be weeks, but watch for it.

Bobby Bright v. Harri Anne Smith. Bobby Bright wins. Harri Anne Smith would be a dream candidate for the Dems to run against. She presents herself as a follower, not a leader. Bobby Bright would transcend party in that race and win a close election.
Nobody would “transcend party” in that congressional district. It is a conservative REPUBLICAN district. The constituents there are NOT going to elect anybody who will end up voting for Nancy Pelosi to continue as Speaker, Charley “Trillion Dollar Tax” Rangel as Ways and Means Chairman and all the other Cut-and-Run Tax-raising God-Scrubbers that infest the Democrat Party.
Anybody who continues to make the case or defend the claim is either: A) politically naive or, B) intellectually deficient.
This race will have whatever resources are needed from the NRCC to ensure the seat remains firmly in the GOP column.
You don’t think the Montgomery crime problem wouldn’t follow Bright step for step across the district.
Yeah, and that’s just his political cohorts at City Hall.
Scorpius,
It sounds like you took the time to copy the sound bytes from the NRCC just in time to convince Bobby not to run. I mean, he was probably waiting on your commentary before he made the decision.
Your Beltway Politics are a litle transparent, but they will make a nice addition to the new segment of Alabama’s Beltway Boy wannabes. No taxes, no services, no liberty, no sense – just in your face conservative. We’ll fund the highways, MEDICAID, and the prison systems with a couple of car washes I guess. Go for it!
I don’t copy anybody’s script, Bub. I couldn’t care less what Bright, or any other Democrat twit thinks of me.
But, I’m all for increased funding for public Psycho Wards to house the deranged like you, though.
Get a grip and stop dringing java this late in the evening, pal.
Sadly I could see Bright beating Smith. I want a Republican to hold this seat sooooooooooooooo bad, but if Smith gets it I won’t feel bad at all voting for the other person. This woman will DOOM the district if she gets the spot. All she is doing is keeping her eyes on a higher office, i.e. governor. She would just use this office as a stepping stone. Tim James would do the same. We need somebody that sees this office as a chance to help out the people of the district, not a stepping stone to higher office. Terry Everett was good for this district, he cared about the district and that was it, not whether or not he would be governor or senator. By the way, Danny can we do something about the stufff in the text box disappearing behind the AL-Line, it leads to many misspellings.
Wallace and some others are right. She is NOT the person to run for this office on the Republican side. She is not what we need nor would she stay if she actually got elected. She wants to be Governor – perios. We need someone that doesn’t see this as a way to the Governor’s Office – we need someone that is committed to disytrict 2 and will stay there for years and get the job done – not someone that is just passing through.
all these harri anne kool aid drinkers crack me up. they act as if she is up to the challenege of higher office. she is a publicity hound – pure and simple. i doubt she will run – she will sit this one out as usual. why can’;t she be satisfied with state senate – i think that is all she can handle anyway. nice lady but let’s get real – she is not who we need to fight for us in Washington.
Now Now Scorpius, settle down. Coffee in the evening tastes nice. I know you probably aren’t
very familiar with Alabama politics, but let’s not resort to name calling.
Bright has been very successful in Montgomery, like him or not. If the Democrats decide to
line up behind him and let the many Republicans eat themselves alive, there is always a chance.
Bright has no intentions of looking at Governor, so his motivation is purely for the
district.
Bright’s record is the most progressive in the history of Montgomery, and he has worked
with many sides in this achievement. He’s pro-business, pro-growth, and pro-active. His
record speaks for itself, especially in comparison to the other novices floating
their names out.
I realize that he’s not engaged in any name calling or negativity right now, so that
probably doesn’t endear him to someone as knowledgable as you Scorpius. I’ll be looking for
some more of your Bright ideas.
Agree that Bright is the best candidate for Dems and can possibly be elected. Nevertheless, that is still a BIG LONG SHOT and Bright knows it. That is why he is putting out feelers about running as Republican.
I’m actually shocked more people have not jumped in this Congressional race. What is everyone so scared of. Your chance only comes a few times in life.
Harri Anne Smith has every right to run. But she needs to get in the race and put the doubts that she is just show boating to rest. Also, she needs to not come into the race acting like she is frontrunner and the woman to beat. She has nothing to back that up. She might be competitive, but there is no data that suggests she is stronger than anyone else. She and others need to end the talk, get in the race, and show us what they’ve got. I agree with the comment that state office does not mean you are the most qualified person for Congress. Congressional seats normally go to well-respected leaders in community. Sometimes these leaders have a record in the state legislature and sometimes they don’t. But to act like that is the premier training ground for Congress is absurd.
I think this race is quickly narrowing to Harri Anne Smith and Tim James. Forget Jay Love (AEAtooge people!) and Bobby Bright (hellooooo – DEMOCRAT!).
That should have been Jay Love – AEA STOOGE people – and he is. Look at his disclosure rports after his first election. Hubbert was his biggest financial backer.
That’s true about jay Love – he even used Joe Perkin’s Matrix group ( AEA’s consultant ) when he trashed a good man and fellow Repub. in Bob McKee whom he beat in ‘98 . Jay is blinded by his ambitions to be in Congress – he will fit right in up there with everyone else who has lost touch . As for Bright winning – I just don’t see it . You think Autauga County and Elmore County voters are going to get behind Bright after all the stuuf he has done to them ? No way.
The previous post is true and I agree witht the point about Autauga & Elmore County voters- no way they are voting for bright , heck they might not even vote for a Montgomery candidate period , …..how strange that all the Montgomery “city fathers” who are backing either Jay Love or Booby Bright are going to be dependent on voters from Elmore & Autauga to suppoart their candidate…the same ‘ City fathers whom have been launching hand grenades and proposing occupation taxes on folks in those cointies….Ironic to be sure . Not happening.
I can easily see those two counties getting behind someone outside of Montgomery – whether its Harri Anne or Tim james ( Assuming Barry Mask is not going to run ) …by the Way , I heard harri Anne has hired Mike Swinehart , the same genius who ruined Joan reynolds camapaign against Wendell Mitchell …If this is true , harri Anne may be headed for the same result Joan did ( terrible media & strategy from Swinehart)…..
William Wyatt Wallace, thanks for the heads up about the problem with the text box going behind the Alabama Line. I’ll see what I can do about it. (It doesn’t happen for me in my Firefox browser.)
Don’t bet your little doodollie that Bright can’t win. What ever party he enters. He will be a stronge contender. He knows how to get things done and doesn’t hesitate to do it.
