Bright Tops Dems AL-02 Wish List

Filed under: Campaign & Election, Party Politics, National Politics, AL and DC — Danny @ 1:41 pm

Bobby BrightDemocratic Party folks in DC are saying they have a poll that shows Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright polling very well as a potential Democratic candidate for AL-02, even leading Republicans that have shown interest. (This is a starting point, of course, not a prediction.) Generally, he is showing high positives, low negatives, and good name recognition. Bright clearly tops the wish list for the Dems.

I hear that Troy Chancellor Jack Hawkins is leaning against a run for AL-02. One consideration for him is first becoming eligible for full retirement when he steps down from the university.

  1. Any word on Sparks? I bet he could clean up down there.

  2. If the demos go with Bright they are assured of getting beat again in the second district. Is he even a democrat? How
does the saying go? Stupid is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same result. It is time for
new folks in the democrat party to play a role in getting a 2000’s type nominee. The hanger on’ers have no new ideas other
than how to get big consulting fees and produce a defeat.

  3. Curious, who would the “new folks” like to see run and with what “new ideas”.

  4. Amazing that they think a Dem will win in district 2. It is not realistic. As for Hawkins he will not run in this race, he may run for Gov. later.

  5. As for Sparks are your freaking kidding? He has no connection with the district. None. Tell me (1) where he is from and (2) where he lives now. I can answer both. He is from North Alabama and now he lives in Montgomery only when he is working as Ag Commissioner and even then where he lives in Motgomery is outside the district 2 lines. No, there is not a residency requirement to run, but he would get nailed for having no true connection to district 2.

  6. But he has the agriculture connection and would continue in Everett’s steps with the agriculture committee and unless we can rightthe ship anytime soon he would be in line for a nice position with that committee with his background, and not sure if you know or not but the garmers in district 2 come out and vote big time especially when their well-being is on the line and they love having somebody that can fight forthem in DC.

  7. So , wm. Wallace , you are a Sparks groupie…no wonder you got your panties in a wad when Rep. Mask rightfully nailed Ron Sparks for all the Grandstanding Ron does about running for this or that . Why just this week there was yet another article about Sparks saying maybe he was going to run for Shelby’s seat in 2012 …It never ends with Ron- or you , his secret press agent . You have been drinking too much hot sauce down at the Farmers market. Dave

  8. If you want to call me a Sparks groupie you can. He is an up and coming person within the Democratic party and of course his name will get attached to everything. As a politician he is not going to rule out any future run, especially one in 2012 (that’s quite a ways away). I am not quite his secret press agent. And with Mask, he is a nobody who tried to get his name out there for taking a shot at a big guy in the Democratic party, all Mask was doing was grandstanding himself. I am not a fan of somebody that gets on their soapbox and tries to flaunt there name by attacking somebod else for considering running for a higher office. Mask tries to get out and show he is a “Good Republican” yet tries to hide his previous runs at the state house as a democrat. So sure I am a Sparks groupie, I think Sparks will do good things for tihs state and to top it all offI am a Republican. I may not agree with Sparks on all of the issues, but he is a good guy and will do good for the state. And I hope he runs for higher office following his term as Commissioner.

  9. Sparks is popular - but he will not run for district 2

  10. I doubt he will run either, I was just answering the comment about how he has no connection and would get nailed. Plus I think he is in a better place with the Department of Ag and Industries than he would be with Terry’s seat.

  11. To be perfectly honest with you .Bright tops the list of any candidates in the running for either Party.Which ever party gets him will be lucky ,I know that for a fact.
