In a run-off for the mayor’s race in Talladega, incumbent Brian York defeated thrice-elected former mayor Larry Barton, 1793 votes to 1725. Barton was removed from office in his third term as mayor when he was convicted of fraud and money laundering. He also ran for the state Senate in a primary challenge to long-time Democratic senator Jim Preuitt in 2006.
