…the Calhoun County Republicans.
Monday night the Calhoun County GOP gave state Sen. Charles Bishop (R – Arley) a trophy of a boxer for “his defending of womankind,” according to the Associated Press.” (Bishop hit Democratic Senator Lowell Barron of Fyffe on the floor of the Senate on the last day of the session. Bishop claimed later that Barron insulted his mother by calling Bishop a “son of a bitch.” Barron denies saying that.)
But no. That’s not what they really meant.
Calhoun County Republican Party Chairman Tony Moreland said the trophy was meant to honor Bishop as a ‘fighter for the little guy,’ not for his literal fight with Barron.
Someone seemed to realize that it just didn’t look so good, and they better recast the whole idea. Though their county chair still told us that it’s okay to assault someone as long as, you know, it is the right person.
Moreland says he does not believe Bishop’s acceptance of the trophy will have any impact on the [Ethics] committee’s decision [on what action to take with Bishop].
“I’m not worried that it will impact their decision, because people in the Senate know Lowell Barron, and they know Charlie Bishop,” he said.

Alot was made of that swing,
It probably didn’t even sting,
but the newspapers lauded,
and blogs did sing,
of a Politico who hits like a queen.
