Bobby Bright, Terry Spicer, and AL-02

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedEarly indications are that national Democratic leaders are excited about the idea that Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright may be their candidate for the AL-02 vacancy next year. That is according to an article from Roll Call (behind a subscription wall) and, to a lesser degree, this one from Politico.

The word we hear is that state Rep. Terry Spicer of Elba is working aggressively behind the scenes to make sure that his interest in the seat is known when national Democrats plot their course of action.

  • Spicer ought save his money and time for something else. While there is some faint hope for the dems its not enough to wager on. While nationally there is a real threat of a democrat President, I’m not convinced Alabama will lean far enough left to relinquish this seat. It’s probably a good one for Troy King if he’s interested.

    Here I re-wrote your story more accurately… ‹(•¿•)›

Alabama Democrats LIE, they cheat, and they STEAL….

The word we hear is that Joe Reed “lap dog” Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright… and “doubble-dipping” state Rep. Terry Spicer of Elba are working aggressively behind the scenes to make sure that their interest [AEA] in the seat is known when national Democrats Hillary Clinton, Rahm Emanuel, Dianne Feinstein, Steny Hoyer, William Jefferson, Alan Mollohan, John Murtha, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid plot their course of action…

  • OldSpringhill

Spicer is just dumb enough to get in this thing.

If Bright is such a lap dog for Joe Reed, why were they in court against each other over when to hold the recent city elections?

Speaking of Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton…

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s voice, when not carefully scripted and controlled, quickly rises to a screechy, hectoring nastiness that makes a man’s testicles recede up into his neck and makes most women taste aluminum.

    =====

Rep. Terry Spicer, D-Elba, works for Enterprise-Ozark Community College as an “assistant to the president for economic and community development.” Yet another example of a “no work” job. He has no shame.

    C o y o t e ….. Corrupt!

Have you ever listened to black radio around election time? Have you ever looked at Bobby Bright’s financial disclosures?

  • Joe Reed took the city to court over getting more black college students to vote, it had nothing to do with Bright besides the fact that Reed preferred a black mayor and wanted to pump up their vote, but Bright is still his lap dog.

Why are republicans so fearful of Terry Spicer? Why did republicans make every effort in the 06 elections to smear Spicer and his family? Answer: Spicer is a get things done, accomplished representative who will not tote the water for the “stick to the talking points” republicans.
It is time Alabama have an aggressive advocate for the people of the 2nd Congressional District….under the state GOP and Governor Bob Riley every other area of the state has progressed greatly over southeast Alabama…..It is time to elect a leader who will ensure southeast Alabama a seat at the table in Washington and in Montgomery. The “double dipper” and “AEA” smoke screens are nothing more than an effort by the elitist
republicans to dumb down southeast Alabama. The elite republicans want to promote growth in Mobile, Huntsville, and Birmingham. They are afraid of Spicer being electing to Congress…..because they know if that were to occur southeast Alabama would no longer be the wart
of the state………………The best thing that could happen for the second congressional district is to have a compeitive
race….regardless of republican or democratic victor…..this is the best way to ensure southeast Alabama is taken seriously in the years ahead.

This is just a taste of what Terry Spicer, D-Elba, will be up against just trying to maintain his present seat in the Alabama legislature. Please, please… let Paul Hubbert, and Joe Reed, and AEA fund Terry Spicer’s bid for U.S. Congress! I personally would love it.

From the Wiregrass newspaper the Dothan Eagle:
“There has been a long and shady tradition of two-year colleges providing jobs for lawmakers, often creating positions with little or no duties, which give the lawmaker a title and a usually hefty salary.” Considering that many two-year colleges have traditionally sought lawmakers to join their staffs in the hope of favored treatment, and that legislators are well-positioned to provide those favors during the process of allocating education funds, banning lawmakers from working in the two-year system is more than a good idea, it’s good stewardship of public funds. The state school board should pass the measure without regard to the whining and threats of the AEA administration, which will do what it may.

You attack Spicer for being a double dipper, but you leave out the republicans like; Senator
Larry Dixon who works for the state, Rep. Mike Hubbard whose radio company is paid by AU,
Rep. Blaine GALLIHER who works for Gadsden State Community College.

  • The reason Spicer is being attacked is because he is possibly getting involved in this race, if Galliher was involved he would be getting the same treatment. Hubbard does not have the Auburn contract anymore and what does Dixon do for the state?

  • JJ

Larry Dixon is is Executive Director of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, which is a state job.

  • JJ is wrong

Even though Hubbard doesn’t have the Auburn contract anymore, he didn’t receive one dime from Auburn in the first place. The Auburn Network, which Hubbard owned, HAD TO PAY the Auburn Athletic Department for the rights to broadcast sporting events and made its money from selling commercial time to advertisers, as I understand it. So Hubbard received no tax dollars or other money of any kind from Auburn and, in fact, paid millions to the University’s athletic department. Get your facts right JJ.

  • Well then the double dipping policy should be applied to Dixon. There has not been rampant corruption within that department so it has stayed rather quite, but you can bet if it was a quarter as screwed up as the two year system there would be a big deal made. Oh the benfits of running a non-corrupt department and having a legitimate job.

“Double-Dipper” Rep. Terry Spicer, D-Elba. Enterprise-Ozark Community College. He only barely survived with 51.3% in 2006.

  • Tipper

If there is a good man for the seat Mr Bobby Bright is the one . Hope he does decide to run.He is well known in the wiregrass regine. He also has a large nice family in this area.

  • yellowdog

Tery Spicer personal affairs will surely be a topic if he runs. Its not a smear campaign talk to the folks living in his district. His ties to the two year college system go beyond double dipping. Friends such as the massey group have enriched themeselves with spicers help. Also Spicers has women problems that will be exposed if he choses to run.

A Look from the Rearview Mirror

This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session.  For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end.  For others, it was one that ended much too quickly.  It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

Putting Students First

As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
