I have only seen one candidate, a Dothan guy named John Martin that supports Fairtax. The candidates need to take a strong position on whether they support the current 67,000 pages of loopholes and favors or 133 pages of clear, fair concepts that return the “power of the purse” to the people.

I am not familiar with the demographics or name ID for individual candidates in the 2nd district but I do have to take exception with comments that Rep. Love is not conservative enough. Jay is one of the most conservative members of the Alabama House and his voting record backs that up. If someone thinks they are going to “out Republican” Jay Love then they are way off base. He is a good Republican legislator and is outspoken on views that are key part of the Republican Party’s base.

Rep. Jay Love will make a wonderful Congressman. He has been extremely successful in business and has strong moral and ethical values. Look for him to be on top in the primary

I think that if Tim James enters this race, he will jump to front-runner status. He has run statewide, has a record of opposing amendment 1 (which will help greatly in a GOP primary in the Wiregrass) and will be able to raise a lot of money (and he has a lot of his OWN money to invest also).

Jay Love has the best shot ? No one knows him even up here in Elmore County and Autauga County….better do your homwwork boys ….Elmore and Autauga make up more votes in the Repub. Primary than Montgomery does now …..and they vote in a 13-16% higher turnout ….If I were Harianne Smith I owould be up in Elmore County right now cutting a deal with Barry Mask who despite what WW wallace says , is the most popoular results-driven ploitician that county has seeen in a long time…..AS this field gets more crowded , these two counties become more important .

Love has no chance. He is too tied in to the state employees and other democrat groups to get conservatives in the 2nd district comfortable with him.

Love has the best shot out of the River Region. I am not sure who the wiregrass candidate might be. Being a Republican district this race is all about who can get the Repub nomination. Bright as a “Republican” makes most Republican’s want to throw-up. Wren I heard lives in the 3rd congressional district. Money can buy name recognition and from what I have heard Love has plenty of it.

Bill Dickinson grew up in Dothan, but practiced law in Montgomery. He considered himself from Dothan.

Let me also point out that, given the power of incumbency, Everett has had little or no primary opposition for this Republican seat since he originally won. To say this is a Wiregrass seat given that of the last two people elected, one was from the Wiregrass and one from Montgomery, is simply wrong, in my opinion.

Before Everett won the seat for eight terms, Bill Dickinson from Montgomery held the seat since 1964. How quickly folks like Cliff forget. . .

Looks like Love and his pal Swatek were too busy being “on the phone with supporters” to get Love’s name in the AP wire story about the race. Pretty amateurish stuff right out of the gate.

This seat is a wiregrass seat. No one in recent memory has been elected from Montgomery. No one knowswho Greg Wren is, much less Jay Love.
