Figures to Announce Senate Candidacy Saturday

Vivian FiguresState Sen. Vivian Davis Figures (D – Mobile) will officially announce on Saturday her intent to challenge Republican incumbent Jeff Sessions in the 2008 U.S. Senate race. The announcement has been long-expected, and the delay had caused the Parlor to wonder if she was reconsidering.

Democrat Ron Sparks, the state’s Agricultural Commissioner, had considered a run but chose to avoid a primary fight with Figures.

Who thinks Figures will win more than 35% of the vote against Senator Sessions?

  • SamfordDem

I do. It’ll be a tough year for Republicans in general even with Hillary Clinton at the top of the ticket. I’d say around 40-45%, maybe even higher if the candidate is Obama and not Clinton. Minority turnout will be very high this time because I figure Obama will be on the ticket one way or another. It may be as low as 35% if Figures runs a really crapy campaign, though.
