Posted by You may remember the story of Anthony Castaldo, an investigator for Attorney General Troy King, who was charged with perjury and quickly acquitted. Castaldo claimed that the charges stemmed from his refusal to give Troy King any information that the Republican King could use against Democratic opponent John Tyson in the 2006 Attorney General race. (Castaldo had once worked for John Tyson.) As Castaldo’s lawyer said, Castaldo was “refusing to do political things” for King and his staff.
The Political Parlor followed the story with interest at the time (for example, here and here) , and Alablawg took a good long look at it also.

“I can still see it,” Castaldo described, “King said, ‘Looks like Tyson’s throwing his hat in the ring now.’ Then he turned to me and said, ‘You used to work for him. You got anything we can use on him?’”
Castaldo slowly shook his head. “I just looked at him and said, ‘I’ve worked for politicians and never spoke out of school about any of them and would afford you the same respect should the opportunity present itself.’”
He wasn’t going down that path. The investigator wanted to do his job and rise above the petty stuff.
The answer apparently wasn’t what King wanted. “That was the last time I spoke with Troy King,” Castaldo said.

I never really got into that case, believe it or not. I was just busy at the time. It did, however, make it to Troy’s Greatest Hits.
Nick Bailey worked for Stan Pate? My already low estimation of Pate just got a lot lower.
As did my estimation of Riley when I found out that King used to be his legal advisor.
Tyson should have mopped the floor with this little weasel. If only his “friends” had come to his aid when he needed it.
Troy King has is accumulating so much baggage it ain’t funny. Tyson couldn’t beat him because Tyson did work hard enough, he refused to listen to political advice and he let King set the agenda. King has alienated so many republicans with his poor treatment of Luther Strange. In 2010, Luther will do what John Tyson couldn’t do.
Any chance Tyson will square off against Strange next time for the AG spot? I was really surprised that Tyson lost last time. I thought he was right in there with Folsom, Cobb, and Sparks in terms of potential. His campaign just seemed to get going really late.
Tyson was his own worst enemy in the campaign against Troy. His ad against the woman whose mother was murdered was beyond low and he came off an a raving lunatic in the debates.
Good thing someone in Mobile decided to publish this since the Mobile Press-Register refuses to give the story any column inches whatsoever. Ironic since Castaldo considers Mobile his home.
