Lipscomb Likely in SD-32 Run-off?

I got this in email from an elected official.

I was reading your blog on the SD 32 race. I can tell you from everything I hear Lipscomb maintains a pretty decent lead in the polls and is expected to lead going into the run-off. Against who is the big question. I was personally shocked when I saw those poll numbers but I guess his name ID and Christian Conservative base must have been stronger than a lot of folks thought. I do think he has a ceiling though and whoever is against him in the primary will likely beat him.

If turnout is low today, the election may well turn on whose base is most motivated to turn out. A candidate with a strong get-out-the-vote effort among his supporters has an opportunity to slip into a run-off.

There is a report of voter fraud in Robertsdale. There is a report for one voter that when she received her ballot it was already marked for Randy McKinney. This type of tactic is deplorable.

Those types of tactics are deplorable, but reports of such at an early time are just that-reports. For all we know this could be just a crony of the Skipper or Lipscomb campaigns to try to plant seeds of doubt in the minds of afternoon voters regarding McKinney. This is a special election and all eyes are on it, but come on people, it IS a state senae primary.

  • Ain't no fraud!

There is a report that monkeys just flew out of my butt, and it is as credible as the claim of voter fraud. Voter fraud in Baldwin County? Give me a break.

Sounds like someone was handing out sample ballots. I have to clean those up all the time in voting places. They are legal to distribute (as long and they are celarly marked “Sample” and with the appropriate advertising discalimer, but they are not supposed to be left lying around inside voting places. Where I vote, they are always lying around and I clean them up and call them to the attention of the poll supervisor.

I agree that it sounds rather proposterous, but at the same time. How many times have you seen political signs in State and Local ROW’s–and yes it is illegal! The candidates may not put them there, but there supporters sure will! As for the reports of fraud, we’ll see if the local news agencies pick up on something legitimate to local politics for a change.

Results are in. It will be a run off between Randy McKinney and Trip Pittman.

what happened to Lipscomb was “definately” making the run off?

  • Will

If by “lead” one means fourth, then, yes, I would say this is a source to trust in the future.

LOL, Rob R., I don’t know anyone who said Lipscomb was “definitely” making the run-off. I sure didn’t.

This post had a title posed as a question (Lipscomb Likely in SD-32 Run-off?) precisely because it was not definite. If polls were “definite,” we could just skip the elections.

Plus, I added the observation that in the low turnout expected for a special election, a motivated base and good get-out-the-vote effort might pull another candidate through.

Not to mention the observation three weeks ago that Lipscomb’s support was soft…
