Comments from a local consultant on the Republican primary for Senate District 32 tomorrow:
- I’m confused in that it’s been quiet. We’ve seen some local TV. Beginning to see newspaper ads. I would have gotten out a little earlier.
- [David Ed] Bishop is the only one I saw that tried to get an issue out, on deducting your hurricane insurance from your taxes similar to something Gary Tanner did before.
- Mostly they are running “good guy kind of campaigns.” You know, vote for me because I’m a good guy.
- In a crowded field like that, same as in retail, you attack number one. We are starting to get some anonymous recorded calls that attack [Randy] McKinney, so you have to believe he is the frontrunner.
- [Trip] Pittman won the sign war. He has gotten more signs out than anyone else. He has lots of local support.
- [Don] McGriff has come on some, gotten some support.
- Bishop has been around 30 years. I just don’t know what people think of him overall.
- I’m just surprised at how quiet it is. Nobody is talking about issues. It’s just so quiet. I don’t know what the turnout will be. I don’t think there is a lot of interest in the community for the race.
- It will be almost impossible to win without a run-off.
No mention of Albert Lipscomb.
There you go.

Bishop has apparently broken the law by receiving around $14,000 in PAC money from a PAC that has NOT identified the source of the money. Anyone want to bet that the source of the $14,000 is AEA????? The PAC – for those of you who want to check it out at the Secretary of State’s website is “RSVP” out of Theodore, AL. And according to the LAST report they filed – in January 2007 – they only had about $1000 to contribute. So where did the $14,000 in funny money come from? Paul Hubbert maybe?
Apparently the automated calls are also coming from Bishop, John Grey,
Raby, et al. Bishop is a real piece of work.
I am not sure I understand what your allegation is, CnR.
Has a PAC missed a reporting deadline? Has Bishop missed a reporting deadline?
I am interested in what you have to say, but I would like to know on what basis you are saying Bishop may have broken the law.
Incidentally, the Secretary of State website did not have a January 2007 report from RSVP PAC when I looked just now.
That’s very interesting, Anonymous in comment 2. What is your basis for saying that? Thanks!
IF you are going to make anonymous accusations, then you should at least spell the names 50% correct
BTW I’m not voting for McKinney. I never liked him. I was at the 2003 Republican Party meeting where he got into words with bert crages (sp?) over the Billion Dollar tax proposal that mckinney said he was supporting. McKinney is supported by insurance giant ALFA and most of the montgomery crowd…that in itself is all I really needed to know. Regardless of who wins, the trusth is that no one got to know the truth about the candidates. As must as we all dislike negative campainging, it is a certain way to find out both sides of each candidate. I have high hopes that my vote tomorrow will count, but as aveteran I can assure you that I put my life on the line each and every day with the thought of what I was protecting back at home and that includes the ability to speak pro and con towards each and every candidate. My God son, we can change government with votes not guns. Get over the ‘negative’ aspect of things and vote for the best candidate after a complete and public MRI.
The last time I checked, the reports for RSVP PAC ended with reports for the 2006 elections. They definitely have filed NO reports for this election cycle as required by law. So Bishop should make a point of explaining where that undocumented money is coming from.
If McKinney should win the senate seat, will he have to resign from the state school board, and if so, who might replace him?
For the last time, what RSVP, which stands for Republican Senate Victory Pac and has a very well establihsed record and is run by friends of mine and a former Republican Chairman, does is their business not that of any candidate. A pac is not an affiliate of a candidate. If the pac did or did not file the report that is their issue. So get their number if you like and call them and ask them why or put a cork in it because it certainly isn’t AEA money considering the PAC chairman.
When a candidate accepts money that is completely untraceable it is no acciodent. This should be a concern of voters. End of sentence. Period.
BTW, If your friend is a former GOP chairman and he has deliberately violated campaign law, his actions are shameful. I don’t think the fact that this money is untraceable is “accidental.”
I do remember seeing the RSVP PAC on the 45 day campaign finance reports. Although I haven’t seen the most recent reports. Either way, if you bank on a lifelong politician, you get misrepresentation and corruption.
No. There is no 45 day report for RSVP PAC in violation of the law. Nothing since 2006 campaign. Facts are a stubborn thing.
I didn’t say they were in violation on the 45 day report. I merely mentioned that I saw RSVP listed as contributors.
