Dem Presidential Candidate State Republicans Would Choose

Of the Democratic presidential candidates, the perspective here is that Alabama Republicans would most like to have Hillary Clinton at the top of the ticket. She obviously has her supporters, but those who dislike her have a visceral, palpable antipathy that state Republicans believe would motivate their base.

Is there anyone else that comes close to provoking that kind of reaction?

  • I think the best candidate is indeed Hillary Clinton for Republicans to run against. Since it is really only a Democrat Primary between 3 candidates Clinton motivates the GOP base because of her lightening rod personality, and Edwards has several very liberal policy positions which make him to the left of Clinton. So Obama would probably be the strongest for them in a general election.

I only lean Republican (and only sometimes), but I would prefer Obama. Not because I think he’d be easiest to beat (he wouldn’t), but because I think the whole idea of this type of strategic political planning in primaries is disgusting. I think Obama would make the best President of the top-contender Democrats although I might personally prefer Richardson to him.

But I have no doubt that some Republicans would love to see the Devil himself run as a Democrat just because ANY Republican could beat him. As if ANY Republican were better than ANY Democrat.

I seriously think Edwards or Obama could have a shot in Alabama Giuliani or Romney if it was a three way raceWith Bloomberg/Hagel (or even a four way race if Ron Paul ends up accepting the Libertarian or Constitution Party nomination). Hell, Clinton might even have a shot here in that scenario; she would likely just end up aiding the Republican nominee, though. My dad is afraid he will have to choose between voting for Hillary Clinton and voting for a Mormon.
