CnR, I know these posts were written quite awhile ago, but I am writing a dissertation and am very interested to understand better the connections with AEA, McGregor, and Giles’ groups, whatever their latest name. Got any more information you might pass along? Such as, where might one find public record of AEA’s funding of Brinson’s voter guides? Any help much appreciated.

To this day, the text at the top of the page on the Email Alerts page reads (with my emphasis added):

The Christian Coalition of Alabama keeps Alabama citizens informed concerning important issues and legislation through both emails and faxes. If you would like to join our email list or have your fax added to our alert database, just visit…

C’mon… that’s pretty misleading seeing as how they are no longer the Christian Coalition of Alabama. And while they might add you to “our alert database,” despite what they say, they are not adding you to the database of the Christian Coalition of Alabama.

The title bar at the very top of the page also indicates that you are at a web page for the Christian Coalition of Alabama when, in fact, you are not.

That could hardly be more misleading.

As for the historical documents, I agree that they should not be rewritten. But their presence on that page with all the indications that you are on a web page for the Christian Coalition of Alabama simply misleads the webpage visitor further.

It would be far more honest to give visitors the opportunity to join the “alert database” of Christian Action Alabama (not the Christian Coalition of Alabama). Then, if the site listed the old alerts, there could be an introductory sentence like, “Here are previous alerts from when we were known as the Christian Coalition of Alabama.” That would be honest, straightforward, and readers would not have good reason to mistakenly think that they were visiting the website of the Christian Coalition of Alabama.

Danny – your point about the name “Christian Coalition of Alabama” being on the Email Alerts page is pretty weak. They legally changed their name, but all old content cannot be renamed to reflect the change. Those are essentially historical documents – you don’t rewrite things done by the Christian Coalition as if Christian Action did it.

The week that Brinson’s first op/ed backing MacGregor’s leguislation appeared – early March – he Brinson was observed in Garrett’s Restaurant in Montgomery meeting over dinner with Milton and Paul Hubbert. The first op/ed appeared the following Sunday. As for AEA retiring Brinson’s debt, it is a matter of public record that Brinson’s “voter guides” distributed during the last election were ENTIRELY underwritten by AEA – ever red cent. For confirmation of AEA and MacGregor retiring Brinson’s considerable “Redeem the Vote” debt there is an individual prominent in GOP state circles who is very familar with RTV’s financial dealings. I would also suggest you talk to ALCAP and the Alabama Southern Baptist Convention people – they know all about Randy.

By the way, I don’t dodge anything. I work for a living and can’t blog 124/7. But I damn well know what I am talking about.

Man, “Clinton not Reagan” sure got quiet when asked to produce some proof. Strange, given his suggestion that everybody knows that what he is saying is true. I’ve asked several people that know Brinson and they agree with Hadrian’s vulgar assessment.

CnR, I have not had any reason or occasion to know who is funding the new Christian Coalition of Alabama. You have piqued my interest, and like Hadrian, I am interested to know what sources can verify what you have said about funding.

Your point that the funding sources make the Brinson-led CCA a “sham” really hits exactly on people’s interest over the years in the funding of the CCA under John Giles. Many people have suspected that the CCA under Giles was a sham with suspect funding sources that drove the agenda, and Giles’ actions to withhold membership and donor lists only fuels the suspicion.

Brinson is funded by Milton MacGregor with an assist from Paul Hubbert. That’s a fact. His organization is a sham designed to fool people into thinking that a ‘conservative” organization backs gambling expansion and liberal social programs. That is also a fact. I think the owner of this webpage knows that, and if he doesn’t, he has zero knowledge of Alabama politics. But I think the owner of this webpage knows exactly what Brinson is about.
