Posted by Next week we will consider Rep. Mike Ball’s Initiative and Referendum Constitutional amendment in Constitutions and Elections committee (At 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday not 10:00 as posted, the clerk will change the posting Monday) and on the house floor Rep. Demetrious Newton’s bill to have a referendum on calling a Citizen’s Convention to rewrite Alabama’s constitution will be on the special order calendar.
I plan on supporting the I & R bill, Rep. Ball sponsors a version that my old friend, the Late Albert Hall (D-Gurley), sponsored in the past.
In addition, I plan on voting for the Speaker pro-tem Newton’s bill on the floor as well……………Indeed, I trust the people

Representative Hinshaw, as someone who has devoted many thousands of hours (and a website @ http://www.doctoriq.com) advocating the passage of legislation to make Alabama’s government finally one of, by, and for the people, and that by doing so will go a long way toward building trust and confidence in our legislature, I certainly appreciate your support of HB263 and look forward to seeing it approved by your C&E committee and sent to the House floor for open debate again this year.

[...] A bill sponsored by Mike Ball (R-Madison), HB263, is a constitutional amendment to allow for an initiatives process to the state. Randy Hinshaw tells the world that the bill is going to be taken up by the the House Constitution and Elections Committee on Wednesday. In a nutshell, this would allow citizens to propose laws and constitutional amendments directly to the people of Alabama through a ballot initiative without the legislature’s involvement. To get a proposal on a ballot, a difficult process must be completed, including gathering a large number of petition signatures (in the hundred thousand range).
