I'd eat my shoes if 20% of Alabamains knew anything about Mr. Sparks beyond the fact that his name is on gas pumps.

My point was that by comparison, Dan's theoretical 20% name recognition for Sparks doesn't looks so bad 18 months out from an election.

And what percent of registered Alabama voters actually vote, Trent? 47% name recognition is plenty. And as I remember it, Sessions actually did better than Shelby on that survey and Shelby has plastered his name on half the state.

Sessions doesn't exactly have name-recognition on his side either. Only 47% of Alabamians in a recent poll could name him as a US Senator.

Try to get Sparks to release his colleges grades and his income tax returns. You'll be surprised.

Out of curiosity, what are the major accomplishments of Ron Sparks as Agriculture Commissioner other than getting reelected?

I hear all this praise about Ron Sparks running against Sessions or for Gov. I wish you all really knew this guy. His ego is out of control and he treats him employees like crap. He is constantly throws temper tantrums and his ego is the side of the RSA tower. He refers to the Ag. office as the Kingdom and is paranoid of everything. I was told by several employees that he three EEOC complaints pending against him. So you think that this guy could win either race? That is scary to me.

John, what I'm saying is that Commisioner Sparks is getting wacky Left blog support. I don't know Sparks' position on gay issues but the AL Democratic party isn't very pro-gay. And the wacky Left won't love him when he has to go public with the positions he has to take to win in Alabama (pretty sure they'll call him a DINO).

Sparks knows or should have known what kind of blog Daily Kos was before he posted there. I'm pretty sure that most Alabama Democrats wouldn't want to be associated with "screw them" Kos. I spoke with a prominent Democrat this morning who was aghast at 1) Kos' comment and 2) Sparks associating himself with Kos.

Agreed, Brian. I would imagine more than 80% of Alabamians couldn't tell you who Ron Sparks was. Even if asked, "Ron Sparks holds a state-wide office. Which is it?" Even given a list of all constitutional offices and the PSC, I bet it would be a random distribution of answers.
