Troy King – The New Nancy Worley
King’s travails have been widely reported recently.
First he tried to shake down Roy Johnson, the target of the two year college investigation, for a job for one of his cronies. Every paper in the state blasted King for trying to blackmail someone under investigation by the AG’s own office.
The Montgomery Advertiser, not known for its alarmist editorials, even called on King to resign his office.
Now it has come to light that Troy King accepted several thousand of dollars in perks and favors from Alabama Power. Alabama Power gave King 14 free tickets and free use of its $2,000-a-day box to disperse among his family and friends.
So King accepted thousands of dollars worth of freebies from a company whose clients he is supposed to be representing in front of the Public Service Commission.
Betweenthelinks has an excellent breakdown of King’s various ethical and professional failings. It used to appear that King was just in over his head, but more and more he is proving that he does not have the morals or ethics to serve as the state’s top cop.
While Bob Riley is riding high in many ways, King’s presence is a constant reminder to the governor and Republicans of perhaps the blackest mark on the Riley record thus far.
Hopefully King’s elective career will be over in four years (if not sooner) and maybe then he can join Nancy Worley in the Alabama Political Hall of Infamy.

Does the drama with Troy King never end? I could tell from the start, that Troy was not whom we expected him to be. What is ALABAMA Power, doing with sports’ boxes in GEORGIA, anyway? Very interesting to see their commercials that continue to parade the local television channels..Why do they have to advertise? Consumers will continue to use Alabama Power, as most of their customers do not have a choice. Everyone needs electricity; So, WHY? Why advertise. Public relations?

Deb, Alabama Power is part of the Southern Company, headquartered in Atlanta. Plus Braves baseball is the cloest thing we have to a hometeam. And yes, Alabama Power’s advertising serves a very important public relations purpose. The people who attend most to car ads tend to be the folks that just bought that particular make and model. They are looking for reassurance that they spent their money wisely. It’s the same with the power Company. Even though most of us don’t really have a choice, AL Power wants us to be happy with their service, so they spend a lot of money to reassure us.
