Campaign Falsehoods
A previous story has a new chapter…
Sunny D. Smallwood has a new ad in the Over the Mountain Journal (shown below) and a similar one that ran today in The Birmingham News.
Five points:
She is still claiming to be “Voted Most Qualified.” Again, by whom? In the Birmingham Bar Association’s Judicial Poll, only 10% of respondents said she was “Qualified” or “Highly Qualified.” This is the second lowest rating of any candidate in any race listed. Her opponent Sherri Friday was much higher rated. On what basis can Smallwood claim to be “Voted Most Qualified?”
- She said her opponent Sherri Friday was funded by “Richard Arrington and Earl Hilliard’s Citizens Coalition.” I understand this to be an outright falsehood. I suppose this was made up because it was to have a negative effect on potential supporters of Friday. I encourage anyone who has contact with Smallwood between now and the election to ask her for evidence on this point.
- She claims that Friday has no experience with adoptions when actually this is a regular part of Friday’s law practice. Not only does Friday have legal experience with adoption, but Friday’s own TV ad demonstrates that she has experience with adoption in her family.
- In the whole ad (below), “Smallwood” is mentioned five times with no other identification. Her platform: “Vote for me. I might be my Dad.” (See more here.) At the very bottom, the small print does say “Pd. for by friends of S.D. Smallwood.”
- The ad leaves off actual endorsements that her opponent Friday has received (e.g., the Jefferson County Fraternal Order of Police, Bessemer Fraternal Order of Police, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and so on) in favor of endorsements for Friday that Smallwood makes up (the Jefferson County Citizens Coalition).

Smallwood’s false claims are revolting.

This is nothing short of pitiful. This woman is woefully unqualified for the position and has engaged in the worst sort of deceit in order to try to fool the voters. She (and her father) should be ashamed.

Arrington’s coalition and Hilliard have always endorsed their fellow democrats in the general election. Why would Friday be shocked by this? Will she petition to have the votes from these organizations “disqualified” when they are going to count in her vote total? I think not. Why discount your support? If Richard Arrington, Emory Anthony and Larry Langford choose not to endorse her, she will have no chance and get blown out of the water on the 7th.

I didn’t know she was trying to impersonate her father. That is Terrible. I also didn’t realize Judge Smallwood had retired from his second career as a nurse

O come on know–it says “Funded by Richard Arrington and Earl Hilliard”–that is the untruth-the ad is pure and simple race baiting–

LOL… Anonymous who left the third comment, you have to be kiddding. The last commenter got it right. When the ad says “Funded by Arrington and Hilliard’s Citizen’s Coalition,” how can you defend an out-and-out falsehood like that? Why would Smallwood’s side even fabricate something like that?

After all these months, Danny has still refused to explain why the democatric “nominee” in probate place 2 has no opposition in the democratic primary. Danny, what is it that you don’t want your readers to know?
