Your Consumer Dollars, Agents of Change

Filed under: AL Issues, National Issues — Danny @ 12:15 am

Speaking of Wal-Mart (as we were) and Americans without health insurance (as we were), AP gave us this convergence today:

[Alabama Medicaid Commissioner, Republican Carol Herrmann-Steckel] urged consumers not to patronize stores such as Wal-Mart that generate profits, but don’t provide adequate health insurance for their workers.

“You have to use the power of the marketplace,” she said. “Do we let them make a profit at the expense of our community?”

Must be a new day in Alabama. Have you ever heard an administration official talking about these kinds of issues - suggesting that how we spend our dollars is important?

About 11 to 13 percent of Alabamians do not have health insurance.

  1. Danny, I saw this and blogged on it too. Amazing, and quite welcome here.
