Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.
This list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.
Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.
The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

Re; 76 & 77
You know the statement you just made about Bright is totally absurd and untrue. You obviously haven’t followed his campaign closely! His campaign has been run extremely clean to date. He has yet to bash anyone from the opposing party. That says alot since he has been accused by his opponent of mingling with Pelosi and other Dems. If it were me in his position, I would have already blasted my opponent about his ties to the Bush cronies who claims an all time low popularity rating. I would also be hitting him about the worst economic crisis the US has ever seen and would be reminding voters about the trillion dollar deficit. Although, he has not stooped to that level and remains focused on issues facing the nation and 02 district. He discusses his plans to provide support to all constitutients when elected. This speaks highly of his character traits and qualities instilled in him.

Give me one thing Bright has lied about. He is running the cleanest race i have ever seen.

And if any of you honestly think Harri Anne is a sore loser you obviously didnt watch her concession speech. I know for a fact the reason Harri Anne has not endorsed Jay is because he lied throughout his campaign, and regardless of political affiliation she is not going to support that crap. If there is a question go look at all the dirty union money, Jere Beasley checks, etc. he used in his first campaign. This is one of the most unfortunate thing that has ever happened to D2. Harri Anne Smith would have been a great congresswomen. Jay Love and Bobby Bright will be terrible at it. They will both be suckling at the teat of special interests so hard it will be funny. In two years when every single one of you is pissed with them. Remember who told you. The Smith Campaign.

I never thought as an ardent advocate for Harri Anne Smith that I could ever vote for Jay Love. Luckily, as a republican Bobby’s lies have outshined even that of Jay’s. At least Jay only lies about the majority of his issues rather than his entire political affiliation. Someone should tear down every last one of those signs thats says I am a Bright Republican and replace them with a sign that says I am not retarded. Bobby Bright has never once run as a Republican. He will be voting with the Dems. Yes thats right, Charlie Wrangle, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barrack Obama, the whole lot of them. I will in fact be casting my vote for Jay Love because he sucks slightly less than Bobby Bright. BLUE DOGS…what a joke.

I kind of wish Hilary had won the democratic vote. I don’t think McCain can beat Obama, but I guess we’ll find out.

Well post #1972, I guess Harri Ann and her “puky” inner circle will just “take their ball home and not play anymore.”
The juvinal mentality of the Smith campaign, and especially Harri Ann herself, tells you a lot about her character. She has none!!!
Comment by LD — August 12, 2008 @ 12:59 pm
I find it interesting that Love’s people - who many GOP people believe unfairly used the party mechanism to favor a candidate (Love) in a contested GOP primary - now want Smith to “play the game the way it’s supposed to be played.”
A lot of people believe Love didn’t. By their reasoning, why should she?
And you can bash away at me saying “that isn’t true.” The pertinent fact is that Smith and her side believe it to be true, and that is what matters.

Word has it that Harri Ann is still pissed about getting her ass beat and that she want’s certain concessions made before she endorses Mr. Love.
What a sore loser she is!!! Get over it already Harri Ann. Repulicans unite after primary elections are over. Play the game the way it is supposed to be played.

I can assure you that the I’m a Bright Republican signs are extremely popular. People in all areas of the 02 district have or want them. I personally know alot of Republicans committed to vote for McCain, but are also voting for Bright. That is what makes this country great is being able to swing vote in the general election. Allowing people to select the people they want rather than stick straight with the party. Most people I talk with are saying it isn’t about the party anylonger, it’s about the man and what they stand for. And now I say great, thats the way it should be!

I probably saw almost 20 of those Bright Republican signs today. One was at a person house who I know votes republican in the past.

“I’m a Bright Republican.” those signs are popping up everywhere. the substantive irony and oxymoronic nature of the trite little slogans on those signs make me question not only the ideological loyalty of the owners of these signs but also their basic cognitive abilities that seem to be lacking in the present electorate.

You deadbeat, limp wristed, fear mongers are wearing me out. Please clean your toenails out and find enough integrity to add a number behind your annonimity label for crying out loud. You know, like; Annon-1, Annon-2, Annon-3, etc. for ever how many of you panty waisted, non-creative, scaredy-cat thinkers who wish to make a comment but fear of being outed by the CIA. Damn. You type on your lap top from under the covers. Get out of the bed and open the blinds. Be somebody and be proud of what you have to say or go to the Disney web and blog with Mickey.

the days of a conservative democrat being able to vote his way and get things done in DC are over…sad to say.
Comment by Anonymous — August 8, 2008 @ 2:03 pm
That’s the same thing as saying Barack Obama supports drilling now, supports tax cuts, supports gun rights, etc. Don’t let a Democrat ever fool you into thinking he’s conservative. Like I have said, democrat and conservative are mutually exclusive terms.
