AL-02 Big List

See also the AL - 05 Big List.

Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedThis list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.

Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.

The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

LD…. You might not like what Bright is doing, but he is beginning to attract folks like me. Those are folks that voted in 2000 and 2004 for Bush and other Republican candidates that now feel betrayed because of where this country is. I know you are going to turn around and say the Dems have been in control of congress for the past year and a half, but the damage that has been done in the past year and a half is nothing compared to what the GOP did the six years they had COMPLETE control over the government. LOOK at the deficit for Christ sake. Where were the people I voted for to control spending during the past 8 years…..they let me down. Bright being able to balance the budget and create a surplus for his city looks more appealing than ever.

Also, a few post ago you called me a liberal. Just because you call someone a liberal does not make them one, and it is really starting to lose its affect when you call everyone that disagrees with you a liberal. Thanks

Mr. Bright has received over $24,000.00 from PACS and Lawyers form the states of Illinois and California. (Obama and Pelosi country) — But, of course, he is his own man and does not pay attention to “party labels” — Right!

LD - You can keep just making up things about Bright. I have seen you post about Pelosi and Obama coming to the down to campaign for Bright, and now Ludicrous. Just because you say it does not make it true, actually if it comes from you it is more than likely to be anything but true. Plus, one you stoop to that level it is so easy for other to follow, example:

I saw Love and Troy King out campaigning together last week. It appears King is truly behind Love. I’m sure they both have the same set of moral beliefs and you guys would have a lot in common.

See LD, It is kind of pointless.

Wow, Bobby Bright is now trying to portray himself as a Republican! Wake up Bobby! You are the democratic nominee, running with Obama, Pelosi, Rangel, etc. Mr. Love is the Republican nominee who is running with McCain, Sessions, etc. — This is truly a pitiful tactic Bobby, I feel your pain.

It is also sad that you are breaking virtually every one of your promises that the “silly ass” Campiang Pledge stated. “CONDEMN the use of campaign material of any sort that misrepresents, distorts, or otherwise falsify the facts regarding my opponent, and his political party.” — Bobby, shame on you! Also, what about another promise — REFUSE to defame the character of my opponent, his political party affiliation, or to condone the actions of those who do.” — Bobby you broke that promise too. If fact, almost all of the Campaign Pledge has been broken by you.

Bobby, by the way, I noticed the “Rapper” Ludicrous, has joined your side (Obama, Pelosi, Bright). Senator Obama has even stated what a “fine talent” he is. Maybe you can get ole Ludicrous down here in the district and you two can go around rapping together. I’m sure you both have the same set of moral beliefs and you guys would have a lot in common.

Bobby, you are stooping to a new low. I, and many others i’m sure, will make you a PROMISE. “I promise to make sure to let the people of District 2 know that you are indeeed, a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT, and that you are supported by your friends Obama and Pelosi every day until November 4th!!!”

That promise is one that will stick!

If any of you Love staffers are reading this please tell Jay to stop whining all the time. I saw the “I am a Bright Republican” signs clip on WSFA a little while ago. It is bad enough we have liberal McCain crying on the national level about the press covering Obama to much; the last thing I want to see is the same thing locally about some damn signs. Lord knows I heard enough of it during the run off, and if he keeps it up I might to pick up one of Bright’s signs.

LD - you don’t know what you are speking of. The dems don’t control what Rs get on the committees. The Rs make their own choices; and the Dems make their own. Wake up.

Half a Brain, by the way that is a good name for you, Both Dickinson in Jan. of ‘65 and Everett in Jan. of ‘93 were in the minority and got the committee assignments that are in question.

Also, your LIBERAL buddy Bobby, can give us all “that work accross party lines” crap all he wants to. He will say anything now. “Momma Pelosi” would set Bobby straight if he were to be elected.

    Nov. 4th prediction Love - 61% Bright - 39%>

LD ….. You did not clearly explain why you think Jay Love, a would be freshman in the minority, would get his pick of committees more so than a freshman in the majority. Don’t you think the Dems will give there own first choice rather than Love?

Also, don’t you think the DCCC would rather work with someone that has said they would work across party lines like Bright, rather than someone who has said they would toe the party line like Love. I think that might clearly explain why the DCCC is getting involved, and will dispel lies that Bright will have to vote the way they want.

Again, thanks for making it easy LD.

I feel strongly that the state of Alabama will go heavy for Senator McCain in November. I also feel that he will be elected president on Nov. 4th. Senator Sessions should also win handily. The demographics for Representative Love, in District 2, should set him up for a comfortable win in November also.

All you Bright fans out there who think that a democratic congressman from our district would be beneficial need to really stop and think.

Chances are, the U.S. House of Representatives, will still be in the democrat’s control after Nov. 4. Nancy Pelosi will, more than likely, be elected to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. And, as stated earlier, I believe that McCain will be elected President. How can our district possible benefit with a newly elected democrat house member in District 2? The 600K that the national party is putting into Bright’s campaign is not just a nice thank you for running, they will expect him to fall into the liberal, democratic fold if elected.

Mr. Love will almost certainly, gain membership to the Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee just as his two predecessors did. — Come on, use your head, Representative Love is the clear choice and he will be elected in November!

Bright claims he wants to run a positive campaign and not even talk about party affiliation. No wonder.

Meanwhile the National Dems are planning to spend 600,000 in negative ads against Jay Love. And when Bright was asked about that today in Dothan, he just smiled and said he can’t control what the National Dem Party does. Well, go figure. Is that showing us what a truly fine man Bright is? NO. Typical politician.

With a Democratic Congress and President coming, a strong conservative Democrat representing Alabama may very well be in the best interests of the voters in that particular district. Ask yourself the question: Do I want a minority GOP member of Congress who has nothing in the way of influence and leadership (hello AL districts 2, 3, 4 and 5), or do I want a conservative Democrat who will be in the majority in 2009 and who will be able to better take care of his/her district? It’s a real no-brainer.

LD…You must have gotten some bad info from someone, or are creating false truths at this point. Do you really think the Bright camp would ever invite or ask either Obama or Pelosi to come and campaign in the second district after as much flack Love as given Bright about them?

At least you make it easy to spot people with bad information or just liars on here. Thank you.

Is Mac McArthur supporting Jay Love or Bobby Bright for Congress? I thought of McArthur and thought about the congressional race after reading a very interesting story about Mac McArthur, the state employees union, and a big financial company called Nationwide. It looks like Mr. McArthur might have some “splaining” to do. The state employee union and McArthur appear to have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar stealing cookies from the members they claim to protect. CC,

I am very glad that you had an opportunity to listen to Mr. Bright speak. I’ve known him my entire lifetime and his honesty is his trait. He will level with you on the issues and will not sugar coat it.
He will tell all the voters just like it is and why he wants to be their Congressman. He will help make positive changes for this country. I’ve been saying this about him for quite some time now. Hopefully all the voters of 02 will see this. I’m for him in Nov. thats for sure!
