Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.
This list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.
Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.
The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

All that from the person who claimed he could personally guarantee Ronnie Gilley was going to “beat down” Carlton Daniels and that he (J.T.) would be there to film it…yet Gilley claims he doesn’t even know who J.T. is.

I would like to congratulate the Love camp on their victory. Further, I would like to congratulate the many of you Love supporters who while on the opposite side of the fence from me have been good sports and civil. This Carlton is in another category. Have your fun Carlton, Robert, or whomever you are. Your candidate won so you absolutely should get to roll it to us for a few days. But, you take it to an extreme that that is not good for you or your professed candidate. I suggest you take a little of your own prescription and tone her down or you will be doing nothing but fueling a big ole Bobby Bright jet engine to DC. Don’t take that as an endorsement of Bright from me but do take that as what will certainly be the consequences of your actions if you want to keep up the bull???? talke.
As for all you political scholars anytime here with a brain knows full well Smith was not supposed to get anywhere close to Love in this race. With several weeks to go she was by all accounts 15-20 percent down. In a matter of two weeks she at worst moved up 9 percent and at best 14 percent. To say the Gilley involvement did not have a meaningful impact would be simple nonsense. It would be called putting Jay Love Campaign spin on it. You guys better be very glad her first bunch of campaign losers held on as long as they did. If the new bunch combined with the last couple of weeks momentum had not been working with band aids they would have gotten you. This is not me making excuses just calling it like it is. Your candidate one plain and simple. And, at the end of the day it is about who can get 50.1 percent. There is a lot of time and creative ideas that can be put together between now and November. Keep fueling the fire ole Carlton and you will see very likely see Gilley wins much more than he loses. I can tell you for sure while all you knuckle heads think he lost something yesterday he did not. Gilley has all you folks so spun up you all are missing what he is really doing. No Mr. Anonymous your wrong. Bobby Bright did come to the Houston County courthouse to protest our project but he didn’t get out and start telling lies about such. I never even spoken with Bobby Bright. Your candidate on the other hand…came to my house, ate my food, enjoyed my entertainment and then later came to my office and asked for money and support. Only to later, after he didn’t receive either, turn around and lie about his visit. That my friend is where my problem lies and because of all you do gooders it still does.
Yes…Mr. Einstien (Carlton Daniels or whoever you are} I did give my Harri Anne my endorsement but made it clear what my reasons were for doing so. Those same reasons exist today. They’re just getting more motivated because of the likes of you. So, if you’re on the Bobby team….you’re brilliant.

I suggest many if not most posts are local people who have come to know you for who you are. You’ve both been very vocal and negative not only on this forum, but another one as well. An interesting local forum was ruined by the two of you. Gilley had no intentions of ever stepping back. If HAS had won, he’d be bashing Bright. Bright came to the Houston County Court House in opposition of Gilley’s bingo casino. Gilley has to “buy” ads to praise himself. He has to “buy” ads to promote his honesty. I’m sure HAS will be trying to unite the Republican Party. Her demise in this race was out of her hands.

Now: you just claimed HERE that your “involvement in this race had nothing to do with Senator Smith” but there’s all those quotes attributed to you in which you ENDORSED Smith…PUBLICLY and in no uncertain terms. I’m having trouble reconciling your claim here that your involvement had NOTHING TO DO WITH SMITH with those PUBLIC ENDORSEMENTS as reported by the Dothan Eagle. How can a PUBLIC ENDORSEMENT of a candidate have “nothing to do with” that candidate???

As for all the “lies” you keep attributing to me, well now: as I’ve pointed out before, I’ve made very few declarations about you other than I simply don’t buy off on the image you and your entourage promote of you as Mr. Philanthropist motivated by altruism. To the contrary, it’s my opinion that your primary concern is increasing your bank account and your ‘public image’, the latter due to your narcissism. As I said, there’s nothing evil or illegal about that but just call it what it is, don’t sugar coat it. That’s our opinion of you, a public figure by your own efforts (and a LOT of effort it is!) Carlton…..not only are you a coward, you’re an idiot, too. I wasn’t involved in this election because of Harri Anne Smith but instead to call your candidate to the table for lies he and his campaign manager told. I had hoped after today I could disappear from this messed up political scene. Because of the likes of you, that’s not going to happen. We will prove a point. Guess what you idiot the election has just begun. I think 3 weeks ago Senator Smith was down around 20 points. She closed out a respectable 5-6 points and kicked you boys tail in the Wiregrass. Montgomery vote’s are now going to split. Just wish we would have had a little more time. I don’t think Mayor Bright is down near that much as we speak.
To clarify a few things…..I have no idea who Gunney and Townsend are. I do, however, know CC and David, both of whom are very good friends. Still waiting for Tim to explain what happened to that much vaunted Monday Morning Revelation -? I mean, wouldn’t THAT -if it actually existed- have done more to hurt Jay Love than all the money spent splattering the radio airwaves with Ronnie Gilley glorification spots first by someone )a paid employee of Ronnie Gilley Properties, no less) with -shall we say- a ‘less than sterling reputation’ in the morality and ethics department and then followed up by someone who admitted he knew absolutely nothing about what should have been the ‘real’ issues (but who WILL pose nude for the Good Conservative Christian ladies like Helen Hutchinson in the Good Conservative Christian magazine PlayGirl).

Evidently the much vaunted security system that supposedly recorded the condemning conversation went cheap on the recording equipment.
