Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.
This list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.
Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.
The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

JLT Angie Casey announced on 6 o’clock news that tomorrow on her noon show, Harianne and Jay will be on discussing the campaign and their positions on issues. (Channel 4, Dothan) I’m sure HAS will be live, but I’m not sure about Jay. Obviously, Harianne does not know you’re spreading all this crap about a tape. I don’t know, but I get the feeling she’s trying to go positive. Too late because of Gilley, though. It’s funny, all of it. Seems like she’s giving her career up for that CC guy. I don’t think she’ll ever hold public office again.

Unbelievable! You people beat it all. An ignorant country hick? Now that’s a good one. Maybe I am? We’ll see. I’m sure not hiding behind a screen name and making up lies about others.
The facts are:
Jay Love came to my house, ate my food and enjoyed my entertainment.
Jay Love came to my office, asked for my support, asked for my money and slammed Senator Smith for getting involved in local politics.
Jay Love didn’t have any problem what so ever with Country Crossing which included bingo.
He understood the bingo aspect of our project as it was the economic facilitator and he DID NOT have a problem with such. Instead he was very excited about the project. Thought it would be great for the state.
Not once did he even attempt to discuss his economic plans for our area. Give me a break. Do you really think he came down here to tell me he was opposed to our project? NO!
He first went to K.T. Coles house in Troy and had K.T. call me from there to see if I would meet with him. Ask K.T. what the just of that conversation was.
It’ll be the same answer as mine.
I didn’t ask to get drug into this campaign but have been left with no choice. Especially being the lies just keep growing. We will defend our position!
I have never supported Harri Anne Smith….until now.
She has never asked for my support.
She has never asked for my money.
She has never asked for my endorsement. She did come to a Wiregrass Live function just as Jay Love came to my house for a party.
These are the facts…hope you can deal with them.
One of you did make sense when you said I don’t have time to respond to lies and propaganda. I don’t but will make it to express the truth.

JLT with every post you lose more of your small grip on reality. I wish there was a tape, but believe me, gilley doesn’t want that played as it would show he was NOT asked for a contribution. and smith can’t deal with him because it would be illegal? hmmmm - then why did he host a fundraiser for her and then days later invite her to a party of cross country supporters and bring her up on stage? amazing that she is adamently opposed to gambling yet goes to his dog and pony show. lap dog anyone?

JLT, what’s the difference in “dealing” with Gilley and “partying” with him? Sorry sport..don’t get your post there.
Comment by anonymous — July 7, 2008 @ 5:22 pm
#1453 Well, sources in the Wiregrass would have to be Mr. Gilly himself. Nobody else gives a rat’s butt!!!
Let the good times roll !!! No, let the tape roll. OH MY GOD, I hope it’s so !! Then everybody and their brother will know what an ignorant backwoods wanna be Gilley is.
I’ve felt all along that Jay was set up. This would just confirm it. I’m so glad that EVERYONE is seeing what an imposter Gilley is.
I’m afraid it ain’t so though ’cause he can’t keep his mouth shut long enough. He would have already told everyone on wiregrasslive his plans. If you go to that sight, you’ll see he’s on line there a lot gushing with his envisionary dreams. If I was planning one of the biggest ventures in the state of AL, I think I’d actually have to work instead of defending my project on line so often.

Also, everyone realizes that due to HAS position in the Senate she cannot deal with Gilley because it is illegal. So Beason, Brown, Harris, etc. have nothing to do with any of this. They do not want to go to jail.
Comment by Jay Loves Taxes — July 7, 2008 @ 4:47 pm
Amen,Brother!! I hope the next to go are the Dothan politicians that shoved Gilley in the face of the people.
Comment by anonymous — July 7, 2008 @ 4:45 pm
Well I did not want to ruin the party here, but sources in the wiregrass seem to be buzzing over a tape that confirms the meeting. Would that be enough evidence to convince you guys or would you personally have to have been there with your grandma and uncle to believe Jay is dishonest.
Comment by Jay Loves Taxes — July 7, 2008 @ 4:40 pm
Just one week from tomorrow and HAS will essentially be a “lame duck” politician. Thank God for small favors!
Comment by LD — July 7, 2008 @ 4:00 pm
I think it’s hillarious how JLT makes these wild accusations that basically “Jay took money from Gilley’s friends, so Jay took money from Gilley transversely”. Furthermore, the question “why would Jay visit Gilley unless he wanted money?” just vexes me everytime I hear it. Jay talked to Gilley about economics- perfectly tame, kosher,etc.- and did not ask him about contributions. He had plenty of time for that on his campaign- they did meet, didn’t they?- and yet managed not to ask Gilley for money- whoah! groundbreaking! talking to a financial power-player in the wiregrass about economics, and yet managing not to fall prey to asking him for contributions! how is that possible? easy- it’s exactly what Jay did! Gilley’s a Harri Ann fan anyways- why wouldn’t they use the meeting to start a false rumor to hurt the candidate that’s ahead no matter what crap the Harri Ann campaign throws at him?
Comment by Elbridge Gerry — July 7, 2008 @ 3:54 pm
Gilley is an ignorant, country hick who is trying to make MONEY PERIOD!
I hope Mr. Love never, ever bows down to him or any of the “Dothan Five.” He won’t have to after Nov. 4th!
Comment by LD — July 7, 2008 @ 1:47 pm
I find JLT amusing. Wow, you are so lost. But in terms of anyone needing to court Gilley you guys need to realize he is not as important as he, or some of you, would like to think. He loves the press and to make comments, let’s just leave it at that. I think Harri and Scott mis judged this one…
Comment by Anonymous — July 7, 2008 @ 1:07 pm
Love took money from Guilley’s friends already. Moreover, why would Jay waste valuable campaign time to go talk to Guilley for no real reason. You do not have time for that during a campaign. Seriously, how come he has not come to meet with me so I will stop posting the truth against him. He should if he has that much time.
Comment by Jay Loves Taxes — July 7, 2008 @ 12:48 pm
Obviously Jay didn’t just go over and say “I’m against everything you do”- that wouldn’t have even been discussed. Jay more than likely recognizes that he is going to need Gilley’s help in the future in the form of cooperation concerning economics in the wiregrass; therefore, after his impressive showing in the primary, Jay would have logically assumed that as the nominee presumptive, he needs to have Gilley on his side; this would by no means constitute him asking Gilley for contributions, for that would be anathema to his Christian conservative values. Again, I submit to you skeptics- look at Harri Ann’s record on gambling and her proven association with Gilley, and look at Jay’s suspected, unconfirmed, rumored association with Gilley. This Love/Gilley contributions thing is a sorry attempt by the Harri Ann campaign to throw mud at Jay, using any rumor available. Disgraceful, really- shame on you Sen. Beason!
Comment by John C. Calhoun — July 7, 2008 @ 12:05 pm
You guys are whack. Now you think Love went to Gilley’s home? Get real. Also, he didn;t go to Gilley’s office to say - hey i’m against your project. He went by the office, along with many other offices in Enterprise, to pay a courtesy visit and when Gilley pressed him on the project of course Love said he didn’t support the gambling issue. You guys are not rational if you think otherwise.

I finally figured out the formula to success in politics.
“Hey everyone, I’m a Christian conservative and am against the further expansion of gambling in Alabama”.
I am running for one of the soon to be vacant spots in the Alabama State House.
(I’ll have a friend arrange a visit for a small donation to my campaign).
Elect Dave
Comment by David — July 7, 2008 @ 11:45 am
Oh please. Name any other congressional candidate that would go to someones house and office just to tell them, “I am against everything you do”?. Any sensible person knows what this is all about. Just follow the money trail and you’ll find Jay at the end.
Comment by David — July 7, 2008 @ 11:12 am
In all probability Jay talked to Gilley about economic matters in the second district since Gilley is obviously a major player in south Alabama- Jay couldn’t possibly have asked for money from Gilley since if any news ever got out about Jay asking the bingo kingpin for money, the whole “anti gambling/ Christian conservative” thing would pretty much be done for. Harri Ann’s association with Gilley and her flip flop on the gambling vote in the Senate is far more apparent than any back room deals as far as Jay is concerned. The Gilley thing is simply a ploy by Harri Ann’s losing campaign to throw everything including the kitchen sink, toilet, and garbage can at Jay- whatever happened to following Reagan’s 11th commandment, anyways?
Comment by Jessie Helms — July 7, 2008 @ 11:05 am
So why do you suppose Jay Love went to Ronnie Gilleys office and to his home. To tell him he didnt want money or opposed Bingo! Gimme a break. The common sense test failed miserably.
Comment by David — July 7, 2008 @ 10:53 am
Jay Love would never ask Ronnie Gilley for money. I’m sure he visited him just as anyone does campaigning. J.Love has more sense to even think about taking money from Ronnie Gilley. It would have been in public records and Love would never want to be associated with him in my opinion. I’m afraid HAS’s association with him will possibly cost her the election. I would believe Jay Love any day over Gilley if I had to choose.
