AL-02 Big List

See also the AL - 05 Big List.

Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedThis list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.

Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.

The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

    I heard a rumor that MH has a Jay Love sign in her yard. Oh the horror!!!!!!!!!

    I heard a rumor that someone elseheard a rumor, that someone started a rumor, about all the rumors on this board.

    I’ve seen more reliable sources at a church supper, where all the hens were gathered over the dirty dishes, clucking about the hens who weren’t there. I swear you ‘guys’ are worse gossips than any of the women I know.

    And with that food for thought, I’m going back into ‘hermit mode’ till I get to feeling better.

    I suggest a new rule. If you are going to suggest something, back it up. If you say people are jumping ship, give names. If you say people are running against Smith in 2010, back it up. If you say Jay Love lies, back it up. If you say Harri Anne lies, back it up. I am getting tired of the BS that is being spread on this board.

    I have been guilty of this myself, so I will follow my new rule.

    who jumped? believe me, when you see her list of donors that have given since June 3, it will be drastically reduced. Some of her major financial backers are NO longer on board.

    The core group in Dothan supporting Smith has splintered to a degree. Not as many of them on board now. Can you blame them??? If you wrote a $2300 check and got your wife, kids, their spouses, etc to write one too and all she did was go backwards in the polls and run a half a$$ campaign with your contributions…how would you feel? She is on very thin ice and the latest screw up with her negative ad against Love where she in fact also voted in favor of the legislation she tries to use against him, may be the last straw here. You can hire a new campaign team all you want, you still are stuck with the same candidate. Beason is the Captain of the Titanic and all he is doing is re arranging the deck chairs folks.

    It is very true that there is a small group of businessmen in Dothan (call them the “five” if you like) that totally control harri anne’s every move. why elese would she have fired a consultant she had for 10 years except at their direction? They want a congressman (or woman) they can totally control. They mis judged, in a huge way, Smith’s ability to handle a larger race and significant issues on her plate. It has been a total disaster and much of her money is drying up except for the “five”. They have failed at being able to have a puppet as the next representative in Congress from this district. Sounds pathetic - but it is completely true.

    The “Dothan Five” as you call them, can forget it, they will have no say so in this congressional district. They should have checked into who they were backing a little deeper before they got behind her. This race has totally and completely exposed her.

    I bet Mr. Love or Mr. Bright won’t have to answer to the “Dothan Five.”

    LD,
    I believe you hit the nail on the head. HAS is no student of politics. However, the Dothan Five and her campaign staff maybe students of politics. I hear that she is just a puppet for the Dothan bosses to control.

  13. 1328

    I heard a rumor that was interesting. David Woods is considering moving back to Dothan to establish residency in time to run against Harri Anne in 2010.

    Another rumor has David Grimes resigning his seat in the state house and moving down here to run against Harri Anne in 2010 also!

    Poor Harri Anne

    Comment by LD — June 26, 2008 @ 11:15 am

    Rumor is that Schidtke is running against Smith in 2010 and could announce soon.

    Harri Anne is not smart enough to know about how Dick Nixon got elected to congress. Does she strike you as someone who is a student of politics or history? She’s STUPID!

    Comment by LD — June 26, 2008 @ 10:28 am

  16. 1325

    It seems as if Harri Anne Smith has taken a play for the play book of Tricky Dick, Richard Nixon. In his California congressional race Nixon would attack the opposition for voting on matters that he in fact voted for himself. However, since he was the first to attack his opponent was left trying to repair such comments. Can Harri Anne Smith be as successful as Tricky Dick

    A person can say they’re a Christian, but only God knows their true heart and intentions. Quite often you can get an idea by the way they live their life … Who do they put first?

    J = Jesus
    O = Others
    Y = Yourself

    A very simple blueprint that represents proper order and reward …

    In my previous comment #1320.
    I incorrectly wrote “god.” Sorry, my apologizes. I am a Christian and I only know of the one “God.”

    I agree that both Bobby Bright and Harri Anne handle the question well when asked. Oh, Bright’s stance on the social issues are very Christian and very Conservative so what will Love do after this nasty and bitter run-off? I bet he probably say that a vote for Bright is a vote for Peolsi, T. Kennedy, and Obama. Perhaps he take his CCC slogan so far to say that a vote for Bright is a vote for Satan….who knows backwards Jay will do.

    I think we need an expert opinion. We need a pastor, priest, minister, or some other church leader to answer this question, Is it wrong to campaign on your faith? To my untrained mind it comes off as a way of using God’s name in vain. I also see it like the abused system of indulgences from the OLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Catholic Church, using your faith for personal gain.

    And I do not mean saying “Yes I’m a Christian” I mean constantly using “Christian” in your campaign materials. I like how if asked Bobby Bright & Harri Anne Smith will say they are Christians and make no secret of their faith, they are just not out their screaming look at me I’m a Christian.

    I agree that Love is using the “Christian Conservative Change” too much. It is over kill and folks will see it as not sincere.
