Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.
This list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.
Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.
The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

Seriously,
Your comments about homosexuality are totally inappropriate…if Danny doesn’t tag you on that one, we will all be wondering what is going on.
As for my sarcastic comments about bunnies and bridges, I guess you have to have a relatively high IQ to ‘get’ irony and sarcasm. Or maybe you just have to have a sense of humor. Either way let me say it again…
It was a joke folks! I was trying to use humor to make a point…obviously the humor and the point were both lost on some people.

Make that a picture of HAS?

MH there is no nice way to say it. You are a nutcase. Are you Harry Anne’s lesbian lover or something. You are starting to act like the Glenn Close character in Fatal Attraction. You are talking about bunnies. Are you getting ready to boil one now or are you playing with a fudoo doll of Love and others. You are scary and completely out of touch. The sad thing here is no one at the voter level seems to be real engaged for any of these candidates other than you who is all but living it 24 hours a day. I do believe Smith will make the runoff regardless of what I plan to expose her for late next week. However she will get beaten for sure in a runoff whomever her challenger is. Whomever her challenger is ought to take the strategy of calling her out in the paper, tv, radio, etc. to debate in a public forum. She then looks like a complete idiot. I’ll give her consultants a big kudos on keeping her out of the public eye so far. That is the best advice she has been given. The problem is once the race is narrowed to a couple she will not be able to do that for any longer. MH, go take your meds and put all sharp objects away please. You are scary. Do you sleep with a bigger of HAS?

MH, your posts are most troubling on #912 & #913. I hope you are still together mentally.
Let me enlighten you on something. The African-American vote in the republican primary on June 3rd will be between 4% and 7% in District 2. Harri Anne’s friend Vickie, the current Mayor of Slocomb, is indeed very close to her. But the fact that she is African-American will have virtually no effect on the race.
Remember my friends, June 3rd and July 15th is when this thing will be decided. — Bobby Bright WILL NOT even come close in the general election!

Oh yeah…I also got a great deal on some swamp land and a bridge yesterday, too. Anybody want to go in with me to buy them?

Oooh! That reminds me, the Tooth Fairy came to visit me last night…and it is only 7 months till Santa comes to visit me and leave me presents under the tree again. I was a little miffed at the Easter Bunny this year…he only left me a small chocolate bunny…but then, there just aren’t a whole lot of dark chocolate or white chocolate bunnies around…most of them are milk chocolate, so he probably has to dole them out carefully.

Post 906, you gave no truthful example of anything Love has done in this campaign that is negative. What you cite makes the assumption that he or his operatvies are on this board??? Get real. You also cite things you have either posted or read on this board as if they are fact. Get Real again.

Conservative Voters need ot take look at John Martin. Just recently took a look at him sent something via his website. I got an email from him shortly there after (not from him campaign manager). I replied and about 20 minutes later my phone rang. He spoke with me for about 45 minutes. He wants to bring the Federal Gov’t back to it’s roots of protecting the nation and leaving the people to have some personal responsibility for themselves! FINALLY someone who understands the role and purpose of the Federal Government as our forefathers intended it!

In this neck of the woods, Smith has a lot of support among the African American community. Many members of the community consider her as sort of extended ‘family’. The mayor of Slocomb is African American and is arguably one of Smith’s best friends. And then there is the way she has mentored (if that is the correct word?) Girls Incorporated in Dothan. A friend of mine who sings in the choir at Countyline Missionary Baptist Church says that Smith has a picture of the choir that she hangs in her senate office. I’ve also heard that she has a print by Dothan artist Keith Newby that was hanging in her senate office. She gets a LOT of respect from the African Amrican community down here….and the respect is mutual.
I don’t know a whole lot of folks in Montgomery, but the ones I do know would almost rather vote for Bealzebub than either Love or Bright. Then again, as I’ve said before…like minds tend to be drawn to each other, so it’s not surprising that the folks I know share similar poitical views to my own.

Also you should consult with John McCain before you use “My Friends” again. I believe he has a copyright to that slogan now. By the way Republicans are backing the Bright Campaign.

You are forgetting one very important demographic to this district. Since, Obama is going to be the nominee an immense percentage of African-American voters will turn. Their turnout is generally trivial. Last time I checked the WALLACE name goes go over well in the African-American community. Also, I’m almost certain that Obama will pick a strong Southern Democrat as a Vice Presidential candidate, a populist either like Jim Webb or John Edwards. This will bring over a small percentage of the rural white vote. This will give Bright at least 54% of the vote. What about Democrats winning the past three special elections? Wasn’t those districts long time GOP districts? With a strong socially conservative candidate like Bobby Bright the district is going BLUE in 2008. It will a great day when I wake up on Nov. 5th knowing that the Dems will control 4 of Alabama’s 7 congressional districts in 2009!

Dirty Campaign Tricks/Attacks
How do I LOVE thee let me count the ways:
1.) This board
2.) Check-ups on criminal reports on his christian conservative competition
3.) Push polling against the same person (verified)
4.) Not really a dirty campaign trick or an attack, but just being a slimeball in general.

My friends, do homework on the AL U.S. District #2 House Seat. This election is going to be decided on June 3rd & on July 15th. I’m very serious, look at past elections from this district from 1964 (Goldwater year) until present. Only in 1992, the last time this seat was seriously contested by a Dem. and a Rep., did the GOP have to worry. — Remember? — Mr. Everett vs. Mr. Wallace Jr. Mr. Everett prevailed over the Wallace name. That was 16 years ago. The Republican candidate has not had any problem whatesoever ever since.
You Montgomery people are not in touch with reality! Bobby Bright has no chance at all to win the general election. Remember he is a Dem!
The Republican nominee in November in this district will win by at least a 57% - 43% margin. Please study the demographics and voting patterns of this seat before making further comments.
I am for Love, but I will support the Republican nominee, regardless of who it is.

All the anti Jay folks want to talk about is Bob Mckee this and that. It’s ridiculous. He has do nothing wrong in this Congressional campaign but work hard.

Name one attack Jay Love has made on anyone else in the campaign? Please name one.

Terry, you are the biggest hypocrit on here. You talk about a united front among Republicans and to stop the slash and burn - and what do you do? You totally trash one candidate repeatedly. Nice Form, Terry, Nice Form.

In reference to comment 899,
This is the kind of thing that Jay Love’s campaign people do on a regular basis (making completely unfair and demeaning statements, or outright lies). As I have stated repeatedly, I am voting for Grimes and consider Smith my third choice (After Grimes and Woods). However, this is completely unfair to Sen. Smith. I think it’s awful that Jay Love’s campaign feels it’s necessary to slash and burn everything that stands in their way.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Once this is all said and done (which looks like it’ll be later rather than sooner), all the Republicans are going to have to work our hearts out to beat Bobby Bright, the DCCC, Nancy Pelosi, Rahm Emmanuel and all the other Democratic Bigwhigs in Congress. The way to do this is NOT to engage in destructive tactics (like this latest push poll against Woods). Each Republican campaign seems to realize this except for Jay Love’s. I believe he is a great servant of the people (he is actually my representative in the House of Representatives). However, he’s shown that he will stop at nothing to win elections, and in a year such as this for Republicans, that is not a good virtue.
Look at what happened in Mississippi the other day. A Democrat won in a district that should be a GOP safety net. We do NOT want AL-02 to follow suit. We need to head in to the General against Bobby Bright on a united front, with the five losing candidates all rallying their supporters around the nominee. I ask Jay Love’s supporters, and all others, to please refrain from these types of personal attacks, for the good of our party.
