AL-02 Big List

See also the AL - 05 Big List.

Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedThis list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.

Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.

The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

I’ve known and worked with John Martin all of my adult life and I can tell you that he is exactly the kind of individual we need to send to Washington to represent us in Congress. He is an extremely bright, principled man of great character. I hope others on this site will give him a good look when he announces his candidacy.

Points for the apology… and you’re right.

I would like to apologize for my previous post, I criticized someone for spelling and grammer and went back and re-read it and let’s just say I will blame that on the fact that I was just waking up and was groggy from last night. I also appreciate how nobody pointed out my obvious lapse in judgement. But either way William Boyd is not a serious candidate and that was the point of my post.

If I were going to be a woman, I’d be Elizabeth. No offense Erin. Back to politics… Ron Sparks better get his Christmas wish because I don’t know how he wins if he runs after Hillary loses. What was he thinking?

John W. Martin is a serious candidate from Dothan. Not a professional politician, but a dedicated public servant and decorated Gulf war vet. Looks like he will make a formal announcement before mid January.

I prefer not to require registration before leaving a comment because I don’t want to inhibit reader participation. I know there are occasions when I will skip leaving a comment on a blog if it means I have to register.

But if people abuse the system as it is now to mislead other readers, then I will consider ways to address that.

This is why you can’t register with a blog. I get to my desk and get 15 e-mails.

Me? Must be one of those internet miscommunications where someone’s mood is misunderstood in the written word, because I’m not worked up at all.

But I do believe in playing straight with readers and not misleading them. And that includes not having another reader mislead them by pretending to be more than one person and making it appear as if a conversation among several interested parties is happening when that is not the case.

I like Erin or anyone who gets Danny worked up.

    Not the least bit paranoid.

But there is no reason for one person to use 5 different names to leave 11 comments out of 12 in a row this morning, trying to make it appear that a conversation is happening among different people.

I do not ask readers to register before leaving comments, but this kind of thing makes me think that perhaps we should.

Danny’s paranoid today. Don’t you work for the gov? Aren’t you guys already shutting down.

Erin, aka Steph, aka RR, aka ALcrunch, aka Doughnut man, aka Jimmy,

Please choose one identity and go with it. You seemed to miss or disregard comment #264.

    Thank you,

    Danny

I googled him and he was a Florida governor who died. Now the primary will have dead people?

    Who is John W. Martin?

    Comment by Steph — December 20, 2007 @ 9:31 am

  15. 266

We need to have more veterans like John W. Martin elected in our country. He is the only one I have seen running who will get my vote. Anyone who has served his country for 20 years or more understands about selfless service.

I know the poll that has Bright way ahead as a democrat and I know what office had it. It was done for the national democratic party, so they probably won’t show it to someone who may run as a republican.

    Comment by RR — December 20, 2007 @ 9:24 am

  17. 264

I don’t like it when one person leaves multiple comments under different names to make it look like a conversation between different people is happening. Or to make it look like more people are interested in a topic than really are.

If you have something to say, pick one name and say it.

    Comment by Danny — December 20, 2007 @ 9:24 am

  18. 263

If that is true about Blount then Bright is just a prostitute. Putting it nicely.

    Comment by Steph — December 20, 2007 @ 9:20 am

  19. 262

It’s Blount and the other way to spell it is “Republican primary loser.” It makes sense that someone like this would be after BB. The guy has no juice in the party but he has enough money to get Bright’s attention. The problem is he can’t give it to the congressional race and he isn’t a fundraiser. By the way, he not only got creamed when he took on Governor James, he didn’t get Bright’s vote, because Bright was a dem and a trial lawyer, supporting his friend Don Siegleman… the dem, trial lawyer.

    Comment by Doughnut man — December 20, 2007 @ 8:45 am

  20. 261

If that’s true, the mayor needs to ask Blunt’s ex-wives what happens after they get in bed with him. hee hee
