AL-02 Big List

See also the AL - 05 Big List.

Welcome to the AL - 02 Big List.

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedThis list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R - Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.

Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.

The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

Bright is definitely the best candidate for the job. He is mature, more professional and focused on the problems this country is presently experiencing. He will be able to work well with the other Congressmen to get things done for America and will make a grest Congressman.

I was at the debate tonight and Bright was terrible. He sounded so defensive and looked desperate. Love actually talked about the issues and sounded reasonably intelligent.

Just watched the Montgomery debate. Despite being a slow-talking country boy, Bright leaves me feeling better about choosing him as my congressman. There’s just something icky about Love. One of those things you feel, but can’t but your finger on.

by the way, if someone bit me in the butt, I don’t believe they would be too honorable anyway. And the only think oozing around here is the stech from the cr@p that keeps coming out of your mouth.

I’ll believe that about Craig when I see it. Not saying that he won’t do it, mind you. If he’s backed into a corner and has to give an answer, he probably will. Decisions have to be made, and fortunately he won’t cross those party lines trying to make nice with the Dems, like somebody else we know…….

2156 - your intelligence and superior judge of character just oozes all over this site …. impressive, over the top, amazing … you wouldn’t know an honorable person with sincere intent if they bit you on the butt …. your political wiles should be packaged and sold on aisle 4 in walmart .. make that dollar general for all they’re worth … geez

Speaking of bought and sold…I hear a rumor that Craig Schmidtke has cut a deal to endorse Jay Love.

I guess Schmidtke will be getting some $$$LOVE$$$ from the Love campaign.

I seem to remember an article in The Dothan Eagle quoting Craig as saying that he would not be endorsing Jay Love because Jay lacked key character traits.

Looks like character traits may be negotiable.

    response to comment #2150

Now what? I’ll tell you. It has been 5 months since Harri Anne barely beat out my pick, Craig Schmidtke. For several months I came on this site and listened to people spew venom in all directions. I tried to tell people that Love was snail scum, Harri Anne could be bought & sold at a moments notice, and that David Woods was a weasel. Nobody listened. People get so caught up in the moment that they forget the decisions they are making now affect us 1-5-10-20-50 years down the line. Harri Anne is becoming a blemish on the butt of the Republican party in Alabama, but she was the “cutie pie, finger in the dimple, good old gal” up until just a few weeks ago.

Face it, she can be bought and sold. She has sold out her party, she has sold out her state, and she has sold out the people who voted her into her senate seat she “fills”.

We are left, essentially, like we are in the presidential campaign. Without a true, stand out, head of the class candidate. Of course, as a republican, I am voting for McCain, but that is only because he is the lesser of two evils. I’ll HAVE to pull the handle for Love, but it won’t be because I think he is the best for the spot, I just know that Bright would be the worst.

Sorry about the rant. I guess that maybe I am just sick of the whole political process and what it has become in the last few months. I do want to say, ya’ll watch. The stuff will hit the fan again on voter fraud and absentee ballots. I hear that from Dallas, Lowndes, Perry, Wilcox, Butler, and Bullock Counties we can expect numbers as high as 15% on absentee ballots turned in. What is funny, is to think that possibly some of that money is coming from the money paid to bail out harri Anne’s debt from the beginning. The Dems will stop at nothing………..

Why do we “need” to vote for Bright? or Love for that matter? I don’t like either of them. Now what?

Everyone needs to vote for Bright for Congress on November 4. He is definitely the right man for the position!

When Bright wins, City Council President, Charled Jinright, becomes Mayor. That is a good thing because if Bright stayed to finish the term, then it would be an open seat for whoever to take.

I agree with you CC. I will vote for someone that (1) keeps the country safe and (2) does not take and spend all my freakin’ money!!!! I go for McCain on both of those. We will see what RG can develop in hard economic times.

sit back and watch….you’ll be one of two things..right or wrong. I say the “grand plan” may take many years..the shopping, eating, entertainment arena, and yes the all important bars and casino will come along within 2 years..of course is obama is elected things could change…doubt any of us would have any money left to spend on entertainment or anything else….

ummmmm - was it not just a couple of weeks ago that gilley said - oh don’t worry - those arrowheads are nothing - full steam ahead with this location. now all the sudden that location sucked and we have a new one. how nice that it was owned by dreaded trial attorney keith givens. boy…there is a match. Ronnie Gilley will save us all folks!!!! Yeah, right. He is known for having a grounbreaking then months later there is still nothing but dirt. It has happened in the panama city area and it will happen here. If he can get away with building a bingo casino and a bar maybe he will do that ??? but i doubt his grand plan will ever, ever come to reality. the guy is bad news.
