AL-02 Big List

Welcome to the AL – 02 Big List.

Alabama with the 2nd Congressional District highlightedThis list has been an attempt to keep up with everyone in either political party who has been credibly mentioned (in public or private) as a potential candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District since Rep. Terry Everett (R – Rehobeth) announced that he will not run for re-election.

Both parties’ qualifying period ended April 4, 2008. Three Democrats and six Republicans qualified for the primary race, and they are listed below. The primary is June 3.

The Political Parlor will update the Alabama Line (found in the sidebar) for the race, though perhaps not as fast as you like since input from a wide array of people is sought.

Now what? I’ll tell you. It has been 5 months since Harri Anne barely beat out my pick, Craig Schmidtke. For several months I came on this site and listened to people spew venom in all directions. I tried to tell people that Love was snail scum, Harri Anne could be bought & sold at a moments notice, and that David Woods was a weasel. Nobody listened. People get so caught up in the moment that they forget the decisions they are making now affect us 1-5-10-20-50 years down the line. Harri Anne is becoming a blemish on the butt of the Republican party in Alabama, but she was the “cutie pie, finger in the dimple, good old gal” up until just a few weeks ago.

Face it, she can be bought and sold. She has sold out her party, she has sold out her state, and she has sold out the people who voted her into her senate seat she “fills”.

We are left, essentially, like we are in the presidential campaign. Without a true, stand out, head of the class candidate. Of course, as a republican, I am voting for McCain, but that is only because he is the lesser of two evils. I’ll HAVE to pull the handle for Love, but it won’t be because I think he is the best for the spot, I just know that Bright would be the worst.

Sorry about the rant. I guess that maybe I am just sick of the whole political process and what it has become in the last few months. I do want to say, ya’ll watch. The stuff will hit the fan again on voter fraud and absentee ballots. I hear that from Dallas, Lowndes, Perry, Wilcox, Butler, and Bullock Counties we can expect numbers as high as 15% on absentee ballots turned in. What is funny, is to think that possibly some of that money is coming from the money paid to bail out harri Anne’s debt from the beginning. The Dems will stop at nothing………..

Speaking of bought and sold…I hear a rumor that Craig Schmidtke has cut a deal to endorse Jay Love.

I guess Schmidtke will be getting some $$$LOVE$$$ from the Love campaign.

I seem to remember an article in The Dothan Eagle quoting Craig as saying that he would not be endorsing Jay Love because Jay lacked key character traits.

Looks like character traits may be negotiable.

2156 – your intelligence and superior judge of character just oozes all over this site …. impressive, over the top, amazing … you wouldn’t know an honorable person with sincere intent if they bit you on the butt …. your political wiles should be packaged and sold on aisle 4 in walmart .. make that dollar general for all they’re worth … geez

  • Anonymous

I’ll believe that about Craig when I see it. Not saying that he won’t do it, mind you. If he’s backed into a corner and has to give an answer, he probably will. Decisions have to be made, and fortunately he won’t cross those party lines trying to make nice with the Dems, like somebody else we know…….

  • Anonymous

by the way, if someone bit me in the butt, I don’t believe they would be too honorable anyway. And the only think oozing around here is the stech from the cr@p that keeps coming out of your mouth.

Just watched the Montgomery debate. Despite being a slow-talking country boy, Bright leaves me feeling better about choosing him as my congressman. There’s just something icky about Love. One of those things you feel, but can’t but your finger on.

  • Anonymous

I was at the debate tonight and Bright was terrible. He sounded so defensive and looked desperate. Love actually talked about the issues and sounded reasonably intelligent.

  • Evaluator

Bright is definitely the best candidate for the job. He is mature, more professional and focused on the problems this country is presently experiencing. He will be able to work well with the other Congressmen to get things done for America and will make a grest Congressman.

    Good News/ Bad News

The Good News is the 2nd Congressional District of Alabama will get a Republican Representative

The Bad News is that is will be either Jay Love or Bobby Bright.

    Logic

When Bobby Bright was first deciding to run for office he waffled back and forth about running as a Republican or Democrat. What kind of a candidate has to take alot of time to decide whether they will run as a Republican or a Democrat. He finally held his finger up to the wind and decided he could avoid the Republican runoff and take advantage of the Obama vote and slip in through the Democratic side. Once he is elected he will quickly switch to be a Republican because he realizes that as a Democrat in a strongly Republican district he will always face a strong Republican opponent. If he switches to be a Republican he will never be seriously challenged again. I challenge any democrat to try to get Bobby Bright on the record to say that once elected he will stay as a Democrat and not change to be a Republican.

As far as Jay Love, what a joke. All he wants to do is bash others. I will vote for him anyway as a believe we have to have Republicans in office to fight the wave of liberalism that will sweep the nation when you have Obama as president and a democratic congress.

  • SayWhat

Bad Logic – Hillary Clinton was the sure-fire dem nominee when Bright declared his candidacy. Of course, maybe Bright can see into the future.
More bad logic – Bright won’t switch to the repubs, he’ll stay a democrat for one simple reason – they’ll give him the latitude to be his own man. The repubs have become a thuggish group of ultra-conservatives, they won’t be a national threat for decades, or at least until they clean house and reconnect with the moderates they have disenfranchised.
Good logic – Jay will lose because his campaign staff blew it.

  • average guy

Bright will switch to Republican if he wins. Mark my words.

  • saywhat

Doubt it. If he wanted to be a “R” he would have run as one.

  • anonyous

if the demos are more liberal than the republicans,
    god help us.

Bobby Bright endorsed Barak Obama again today.

  • Iheard

I heard that Jay Love endorsed Bobby Bright today.

  • Anonymous

No, Jay Love would not endorse anyone who endorsed Barak Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

  • Iheard

My sister called to tell me that the Wetumpka newspaper endorsed: McCain/Sessions/Bright

For those of you that may not know, Wetumpka is the county seat of Elmore county, a Republican stronghold.

  • Anonymous

The Wetumpka Herald has had a grudge since this campaign started. … YAWN

  • Iheard

My very reliable insider sources tell me it’s all over except for the elephant tears. Seems the Greedy ole Party (GOP) will be walloped in several races this year. Anticipated results are McCain/Sessions/Bright/Paseur/Baxley and Rogers/Seagall is a toss-up. What a year, who would have thunk it?

  • Bobby Bright has NOT endorsed either Presidential candidate. He has said he will work with either man.

Bob Riley is destroying our State with his illegal task force. No jobs, homes,no food on the tables, schools has no money. Do not elect any Riley to a State office.Riley looks like you would want to help the State of Alabama instead of destroying it.

Riley needs to come clear and seperate legal charity bingo from casino gambling…

    Feb. 16, 2009

This letter is in regards to Governor Bob Riley.

A copy of this letter will be sent to every television and radio station and every newspaper in the State of Alabama. Afterwards, it will be sent to all national stations, senators, representatives, Department of Justice, and to The President Of The United States.

I expect you to cover the Riley and Mississippi Choctaw Indain connections which date back several years and have been confirmed by the Senate Indain Affairs Commitee. I encourage you to ask Governor Riley what his relationship is with The Mississippi Indains and if his son, Rob Riley, has done any legal work or otherwise for them. Governor Riley recently made a statement that he has never been in a gambling facility. According to the Poarch Band of Creek Indains, he visited their Atmore location in 2008.

We need an investigation of Governor Riley and his expectance of money from the Choctaw Indains in Mississippi to keep gambling out of the State Of Alabama.

    We appreciate your help,

    The People of Alabama

Legislative Dispatch

A Look from the Rearview Mirror

This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session.  For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end.  For others, it was one that ended much too quickly.  It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

Putting Students First

As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
